Job Description

As a Pastry Commis, you will be embarking on a journey into the world of pastry arts, working under the guidance of experienced chefs to create exquisite pastries and desserts. This entry-level position is essential to the pastry department, contributing to the smooth operation of pastry preparation, baking processes, and presentation standards. You will be expected to show a profound interest in pastry arts, a keen eye for detail, and a willingness to learn and grow in a high-paced kitchen environment. With a knack for creativity and precision, you will assist in the preparation and presentation of a wide variety of decadent desserts and pastries, ensuring that quality and consistency are maintained at all times. Your role will also involve maintaining cleanliness, adhering to health and safety standards, and collaborating with team members to deliver exceptional culinary experiences.


Responsibilities

  • Assist senior chefs in the preparation and baking of pastries and desserts.
  • Measure and mix ingredients precisely according to recipes and guidelines.
  • Ensure all baking equipment and kitchen areas are clean and organized.
  • Adhere to hygiene and safety standards to maintain a safe kitchen environment.
  • Assist in decorating cakes, pastries, and other desserts with artistic flair.
  • Monitor inventory levels and notify senior chefs of stock shortages.
  • Prepare and organize ingredients for daily pastry production efficiently.
  • Participate in training sessions to enhance pastry skills and techniques.
  • Support team members during high-demand periods with enthusiasm and diligence.
  • Ensure quality control by checking the appearance and taste of baked goods.
  • Assist in the development of new pastry creations and menu items.
  • Operate various kitchen appliances such as mixers, ovens, and scales.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a professional kitchen is highly desirable.
  • A diploma or certification in culinary arts or pastry is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of baking techniques and pastry preparation.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining composure.
  • Excellent time management skills and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to take direction and learn from experienced pastry chefs.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
