Job Description

The Sous Chef plays a critical role in the kitchen hierarchy, acting as the second-in-command after the Head Chef. They are integral to overseeing culinary operations, ensuring excellent food quality, and managing the kitchen staff. A successful Sous Chef combines culinary expertise with strong leadership skills, maintaining standards for food safety and hygiene. They work closely with the Head Chef to design and execute menus, train kitchen personnel, and contribute to the overall success of the restaurant. Creativity, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment are essential attributes for this role. The Sous Chef also plays a pivotal role in inventory management, ensuring efficient kitchen operations by sourcing ingredients and controlling food costs. Responsibilities

  • Assist the Head Chef in menu planning, creation, and execution.
  • Manage daily kitchen operations and supervise all kitchen staff activities.
  • Ensure high standards of food safety, hygiene, and preparation practices.
  • Collaborate with procurement staff for inventory management and supplier relations.
  • Train and mentor junior chefs and kitchen staff for skill development.
  • Oversee kitchen equipment maintenance and ensure operational efficiency.
  • Coordinate food preparation processes for large-scale culinary events.
  • Monitor and adjust food cost control measures to optimize budget adherence.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of innovative culinary methods.
  • Ensure compliance with company regulations and culinary best practices.
  • Resolve any kitchen-related issues promptly and maintain team morale.
  • Provide constructive feedback to kitchen staff to improve culinary techniques.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Sous Chef or in a similar leadership role.
  • Culinary degree or equivalent work experience in a professional kitchen.
  • Excellent knowledge of culinary techniques, ingredients, and kitchen equipment.
  • Strong organizational and delegation skills in a high-pressure environment.
  • Exceptional communication abilities and leadership qualities to manage a team.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
