Job Title: Senior Wireman – S&T

Department: Signaling & Telecommunication (S&T), Railways

Reports To: Junior Engineer / Section Engineer (S&T)

Job Summary

The Senior Wireman (S&T) will be responsible for supervising and executing wiring, installation, testing, and maintenance of signaling and telecommunication equipment in the Railways. The role involves ensuring the reliability, safety, and compliance of S&T systems while guiding wiremen and helpers in day-to-day operations.

Key Responsibilities

Carry out wiring, termination, and connection works for signaling and telecommunication circuits.

Assist in the installation, commissioning, and maintenance of signaling equipment (relays, point machines, track circuits, signal posts, etc.).

Work on telecommunication systems including cables, junction boxes, and indoor/outdoor equipment.

Perform testing and troubleshooting of circuits, cables, and signaling systems.

Maintain proper wiring diagrams, circuit records, and cable route documentation.

Ensure compliance with safety procedures and Railway S&T standards.

Guide and supervise wiremen and helpers in field activities.

Report daily work progress to the Junior Engineer/Section Engineer.

Support in attending failures, inspections, and block work as per operational requirements.

Key Skills & Competencies

Strong knowledge of signaling and telecommunication wiring practices.

Ability to read and interpret circuit diagrams, wiring charts, and technical drawings.

Familiarity with cables, joints, termination methods, and earthing practices.

Problem-solving skills for fault detection and rectification.

Team coordination and leadership abilities.

Adherence to Railway safety and quality standards.

Qualifications & Experience

ITI / Diploma in Electrical, Electronics, or related discipline (preferably in S&T trade).

Minimum 5–7 years of experience in wiring, installation, and maintenance of Railway S&T systems.

Work Environment

Prior experience in Railways/Metro/Rail Infrastructure projects preferred.

Field-based work including stations, tracks, and outdoor sites.

Involves night shifts, block hours, and emergency callouts.

Requires physical fitness and readiness to work in all weather conditions.
