The Litigation Supervisor leads and is accountable for the performance of a team of Litigators handling pre-judgment legal collections at Cedar. This role oversees the team's account reviews, attorney placements, and case progression from initial filing through entry of judgment or pre-judgment liquidation, ensuring each Litigator's WIP, quality, and production KPIs are met. The Litigation Supervisor allocates and rebalances accounts across the team, reviews escalations and exceptions the Litigators cannot resolve on their own, and quality-checks account reviews, attorney correspondence, and judgment handoffs before they move downstream. The Litigation Supervisor works closely with the Manager, Legal Department, to keep team workflows optimized, and maintains regular communication with the Client Success, Legal CSR, and Sales teams to address client-specific challenges, support client onboarding, and keep reference materials such as QRGs (Quick Reference Guides) current. The Litigation Supervisor is responsible for hiring, training, and coaching Litigators, and for ensuring a clean, timely handoff of every judgment account to the Enforcer team.
Responsibilities
Team Oversight & Account Reviews — Legal
· Allocate and rebalance the pre-judgment account inventory across the Litigator team to keep WIP and pendency within target.
· Spot-check account reviews and supporting documentation for accuracy, and resolve escalations where feasibility for legal action is unclear or disputed.
· Own the LEGRVW desk backlog at the team level, and reassign or expedite cases to keep the desk within workflow-efficiency targets.
Account Placement & Attorney Coordination Oversight
· Oversee the team's placement of qualified accounts with partner attorney offices, and monitor case progress — pleadings, motions, defaults, and settlement negotiations — through entry of judgment.
· Step into client- and attorney-facing discussions the Litigators cannot resolve, and review asset reports and case materials shared with legal partners for accuracy.
· Escalate and resolve client queries and approval requests that Legal CSRs, CSM, or the Sales Team cannot clear at the individual-case level.
Quality, Communication & Documentation
· Audit correspondence and case documentation for consistency and completeness across the team.
· Ensure all legal actions and client interactions are properly recorded and traceable, and correct documentation gaps identified during review.
Judgment Handoff Oversight
· Review case files compiled for transfer to the Enforcer team — judgment abstract, case history, client approvals, and attorney correspondence — for completeness before handoff.
· Coordinate with the Enforcement Supervisor to ensure a clean, gap-free transition of judgment accounts from litigation to post-judgment enforcement.
Team Development & Workflow Management
· Hire, train, and coach Litigators, and manage day-to-day scheduling, coverage, and performance of the team.
Collaborate with internal departments to support pre-judgment account resolution and liquidation, and drive the development and execution of workflows aligned with client needs.
Education, Experience, Qualifications & Skills
· Education: Relevant educational background, such as a degree in Law or a related field.
· Experience: 4–5 years of experience in legal operations in a debt collection role, including demonstrated experience as a Litigator or equivalent pre-judgment case manager, with at least 1–2 years in a supervisory or lead capacity.
· Legal System Acquaintance: In-depth acquaintance with the U.S. legal system — particularly civil procedure, pleading standards, default and summary judgment practice, and pre-judgment settlement negotiation — along with compliance requirements and regulations governing collections.
· Team Leadership & Performance Management: Proven ability to hire, train, coach, and manage the performance of a team against production and quality KPIs, including handling underperformance and escalations.
· Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: Strong ability to analyze indicators of legal feasibility at both the account and team level, resolve escalated conflicts, and make data-driven staffing and workflow decisions.
· Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, ensuring clear guidance for the team, clients, and instructions to attorneys.
· Collaboration: Ability to work cross-functionally with attorneys, other departments, clients, the Enforcement Supervisor, and Senior Leadership.
· Attention to Detail & Organization: Keen eye for detail in auditing client documentation and account reviews, with strong organizational skills to manage team deadlines and records.
· Adaptability & Team Orientation: Comfortable with changing business requirements and a collaborative, team-oriented leadership approach.
Familiarity with office procedures and equipment, and proficiency in common software programs such as Microsoft Office.
