Job Overview
The Payroll Tax team for QuickBooks Online is looking for a Staff Product Designer to imagine, create, and test the next generation of tax software that is approachable, effortless and empowering. As a Staff-level designer, you will be a leader on the team, setting a high bar for craft, driving design strategy, and mentoring other designers. We are looking for design hackers, pragmatists, and unconventional thinkers to bridge the gap between conceptual design, emerging technologies and platform capabilities. You should be a maker and not afraid to take on complex challenges that lead to paradigm shifting ideas. You thrive in ambiguity and are a creative systems thinker. You’ll be part of a design team dedicated to proving and creating game changing user experiences that will help power prosperity for our customers.
Responsibilities
Drive and deliver design strategies, frameworks, principles, and designs on a broad range of projects to accelerate large initiatives and align stakeholders across different teams and business units
Work on scalable platform solutions with velocity and rigor by leveraging and contributing to our Intuit design system and innovating using new and existing tech capabilities
Lead delivery of high-level frameworks for understanding the problem space, detailed design specs for end to end initiatives, and ideal state prototypes
Translate complex tax concepts into simple, accessible, and engaging experiences
Can connect the dots across multiple strategies and initiatives to make the largest impact
Leverage customer insights and data to inform design decisions, ensuring solutions are deeply rooted in customer empathy and address real user needs
Create user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs that balance member needs, business goals, and technical feasibility
Strategic and Foundational Leadership
Provide mentorship and thought leadership within the team, cultivating a culture of high velocity, a bias for action, experimentation, and shared learnings
Serve as a lighthouse example for understanding, identifying, and executing high-impact growth design work, setting a gold standard for design practices across the Product organization
Apply strategic thinking to design and deliver innovative end-to-end user experiences that optimize among user needs, business goals, and technological realities across web platforms
Bring a bold vision and design strategy to life across multiple areas in the ecosystem, connecting the dots across multiple strategies and initiatives to make the largest impact.
Collaboration and Communication
Partner with product management and engineering to define strategy, identify opportunities, and deliver experiences that drive measurable impact.
Operate with autonomy and drive design in partnership with many stakeholders across Design, Development, Product Management, Data/Analytics, and Service Design.
Masterful storyteller, able to influence a broad audience by visualizing ideas and concepts for internal leaders, partners, and customers.
Use facilitative leadership skills to drive to the best outcome for stakeholders, inspiring others to want to work with you.
Qualifications
12+ years of Product design (UX + UI + Research) experience, with at least 2 years in a staff-level role.
Strong portfolio demonstrating end-to-end product design skills and the ability to tackle ambiguous problems.
Exceptional visual, interaction, and systems design skills, with a strong attention to detail.
Deep understanding of human-centered design, accessibility, and usability principles.
Expert knowledge and experience with driving and applying user-centered design processes while working collaboratively with customers, along with cross-functional teams including engineering, product management, and user research.
Deep knowledge of user experience methods, innovation, ideation, storytelling, prototyping, design frameworks, concept visualization, problem-framing skills and design principles. Familiarity with design guidelines and best practices (e.g., Apple Human Interface Guidelines, Material Design)
Product Impact And, Data And Business Acumen
Proven track record of shipping impactful digital products, ideally in fintech, banking, or financial wellness
Ability to influence at multiple levels of the organization, balancing business needs with member advocacy
Proven track record in setting a vision for great customer experiences, inspiring others to get behind the vision, and ultimately delivering products and services that are known for their delightful experience and ease of use
Collaboration & Leadership
Experience collaborating cross-functionally with product, engineering, and research
Strong communication skills with the ability to present and rationalize design decisions clearly Exemplary ability to build positive, collaborative relationships across teams/groups/functions through facilitative leadership to deliver great results and to "raise the bar" continually as an effective leader of positive change
Passion & Self-Management
