About The Role

As a Staff engineer, you will be applying your in-depth knowledge and experience in electro-mechanical product development to the detailed design and development of products that use polymers, metals, and elastomers and which closely interface with PCBs and high-power electrical components or Electromechanical components. You will be working closely with team members across our global development team, so your spoken and written communication needs to be clear and effective to be able to present your ideas, your concepts, and your feedback. You will be problem-solving on new product development, identifying and resolving root causes of field failures and implementing effective cost reduction opportunities.

What you will be doing

  • Hands on experience in designing electromechanical products
  • Manage assigned mechanical design projects, adhering to project timelines, budget constraints, and quality standards
  • Designing new components and products, sometimes as sole contributor but often as part of a team of contributors
  • Design parts for plastic injection molding, sheet metal operations, Die casting & extrusion etc
  • Work on connector designs, cable assemblies & ECAD/MCAD integrations
  • Perform day-to-day CAD (3D & 2D) activities and design documentation
  • Reviewing and analyzing solutions to achieve the best outcome for performance/cost/schedule
  • Component review and approval
  • Generating own (and reviewing others’) documentation, including concept proposals; analysis reports; component specifications; review minutes
  • Ensure quality by design
  • Failure analysis and root cause identification
  • Testing proof-of-concepts, prototypes. Finished product for functionality & performance
  • Designing (70%) & testing (30%) of new components and products, sometimes as sole contributor but often as part of a team of contributors
  • Mentor Juniors for good practices and best design practices
  • Supplier interactions & Co-ordination
  • Factory Interaction, Co-ordination, build support & preparation.
  • Travel local & International for work related assignments
  • Travel to local & International Suppliers


Who You Are And What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in mechanical engineering
  • 8+ years (with BE / BS) or 6+ years (with Masters) of industry work experience in product design & development
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of design for manufacture of parts made through injection moulding, sheet metal, stamping, milling/turning
  • Hands on in preparing mechanical mock-ups, Prototypes, Electro-mechanical assemblies, Cable Assemblies, and test sample preparation
  • Good exposure on UL/IEC and related standards. Experience on UL1741, UL9540, UL 9540A will be an added advantage
  • Experience using computer-aided development tools (SolidWorks)
  • Understanding of structural and thermal design considerations
  • Good Exposure on DFX for high volume production
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication
  • Experience in Tolerance stack up & application of GD& T
  • Experience in DFMEA, DFM, RCCA, Mold flow
  • Experience in selection of Material (plastic, sheet metal, sealings/ gaskets)
  • Experience in design and testing of IP rated enclosures
  • Clear communication, verbal and written
  • Experience in the design of high-volume products would be a plus
  • Previous employment in high-power and consumer products industries would be an added advantage
  • Knowledge thermal design concepts, its impact and design guidelines
  • Knowledge on design for user experience and usability
  • Knowledge on Serviceability & Manufacturability
