Job Description

The Laboratory Technician (Food & Water Testing) plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and quality of food and water resources. Working within a laboratory setting, this professional is responsible for conducting various tests and analyses required to detect and quantify contaminants and ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations. The role requires meticulous attention to detail, adherence to protocols, and precise documentation of results. Through the application of advanced analytical methods, including chemical and microbiological testing, the technician helps safeguard public health by ensuring that food and water supplies are safe for consumption. Responsibilities

  • Conduct precise and accurate analytical tests on food and water samples.
  • Prepare and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring all instruments are calibrated.
  • Adhere to safety and quality standards in all laboratory processes and procedures.
  • Document test results accurately and maintain comprehensive lab records and reports.
  • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on laboratory equipment and instruments.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory standards and laboratory protocols.
  • Collaborate with team members to develop and refine testing methodologies.
  • Participate in the development and validation of new analytical methods as required.
  • Monitor laboratory supply inventory and reorder materials as necessary to prevent shortages.
  • Conduct quality control tests to ensure accuracy and consistency of lab results.
  • Analyze and interpret data, providing clear findings and observations to stakeholders.
  • Assist in training and mentoring new staff and interns within the laboratory.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, or related field required.
  • At least two years of laboratory experience, preferably in food and water testing.
  • Strong understanding of laboratory safety protocols and regulatory compliance standards.
  • Proficiency with laboratory instruments and analytical techniques including chromatography.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent documentation and data management skills essential.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot laboratory equipment effectively.
