Job Description

The Sous Chef plays a critical role in the kitchen, working directly under the Head Chef to manage the kitchen staff and operations efficiently. This position requires a combination of culinary skill, leadership ability, and the capacity to work in high-pressure environments. The ideal candidate will have a passion for food and culinary arts, along with a strong understanding of various cooking techniques and styles. As a Sous Chef, you will be expected to assist in menu development, inventory management, and ensuring the highest standards of food safety and quality are met. Your experience will also guide and mentor junior staff members to foster a collaborative and efficient kitchen environment.


Responsibilities

  • Assist the Head Chef with menu planning and recipe development.
  • Supervise kitchen staff to ensure smooth operations and adherence to recipes.
  • Oversee food preparation to ensure quality and presentation standards are met.
  • Manage inventory, order supplies, and ensure efficient use of stock.
  • Ensure all hygiene and safety protocols are strictly followed in food handling.
  • Train and mentor junior kitchen staff to enhance their culinary skills.
  • Coordinate with the kitchen team to manage high-volume meal services.
  • Collaborate with the Head Chef to create daily and seasonal specials.
  • Resolve any issues or conflicts that arise in the kitchen promptly.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen and storage areas.
  • Assist in managing kitchen budgets and controlling waste to optimize resources.
  • Participate in food tastings and constructive feedback sessions with staff.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in a similar role or culinary leadership position.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of cooking techniques and kitchen equipment.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills under pressure.
  • Ability to lead and motivate a diverse kitchen team effectively.
  • Strong understanding of food safety regulations and best practices.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations and provide timely solutions.
  • Culinary degree or certification from a recognized institution is preferred.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holiday shifts as required.
