Job Description

The Commis Chef plays a pivotal role in the kitchen by assisting more experienced chefs in daily food preparation, maintaining cleanliness, and ensuring the highest standards of food quality. Working under the supervision of head or senior chefs, the Commis Chef is responsible for executing assigned tasks effectively and ensuring that every dish meets the professional standards of the kitchen. Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of all food and beverage items for the restaurant.
  • Work closely with senior chefs to learn culinary skills and techniques.
  • Ensure that kitchen and food preparation areas are clean and organized.
  • Assist with the receiving and storage of kitchen supplies and ingredients.
  • Prepare ingredients by washing, peeling, chopping, and slicing as needed.
  • Keep track of inventory and notify the head chef when supplies are running low.
  • Follow all food safety and sanitation procedures in the kitchen.
  • Help plate dishes during service to ensure consistency and quality.
  • Participate in training sessions to enhance skills and culinary knowledge.
  • Work flexible hours to support the team during peak service times.
  • Communicate effectively with kitchen staff and share information as needed.
  • Perform other kitchen and restaurant duties as assigned by supervising chefs.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a kitchen environment is highly desirable.
  • Strong enthusiasm for cooking and pursuing a culinary career.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team under pressure.
  • Willingness to learn and take instruction from senior kitchen staff.
  • Good understanding of basic food hygiene practices and regulations.
  • Effective communication skills to interact with a diverse team.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as the restaurant schedule demands.
