Job Description

The role of a Commis Chef involves working as an integral part of a commercial kitchen operation, assisting senior chefs in preparing and cooking tasks while consistently delivering high-quality cuisine. This is a hands-on, entry-level position that is perfect for someone passionate about cooking and eager to learn all aspects of culinary arts. A Commis Chef is responsible for supporting food preparation and cleanliness of the kitchen. They work under the supervision of a chef de partie or head chef, learning the intricacies of running an efficient kitchen, and contributing to the kitchen team’s overall success. This role includes a mix of hands-on kitchen duties, support tasks, and learning opportunities, all in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation and cooking of dishes in the kitchen.
  • Follow instructions from senior chefs to complete food preparation tasks.
  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards across all kitchen stations.
  • Develop skills in fundamental cooking techniques from senior kitchen staff.
  • Keep track of food inventory and alert supervisors about low stock levels.
  • Support other team members with daily kitchen prepping and cooking tasks.
  • Learn to properly use and maintain all kitchen equipment and utensils.
  • Assist in the assembly and presentation of food items on the plate.
  • Contribute to maintaining a safe and healthy work environment for all staff.
  • Adapt quickly to changing priorities and work efficiently under pressure.
  • Communicate effectively with the kitchen team to ensure smooth service.
  • Participate actively in formal and informal culinary training opportunities.

Requirements

  • Previous kitchen experience is preferred but not strictly necessary.
