Job Description

As a Pharmacy Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting pharmacists in the delivery of pharmaceutical services to a wide range of patients. Your primary function will involve supporting daily pharmacy operations, ensuring that the customers receive prompt and professional service. You will handle prescriptions, manage inventory, and provide administrative support while maintaining a friendly and welcoming environment for patients. This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to effectively communicate with both colleagues and customers. You will also need to have a caring approach, understanding the sensitivity of healthcare delivery, and the importance of accuracy and confidentiality in this role.


Responsibilities

  • Assist pharmacists in preparing and dispensing medications to patients accurately and promptly.
  • Greet and assist customers, answering incoming calls and directing inquiries appropriately.
  • Manage the inventory of pharmaceutical products, including restocking shelves and monitoring expiry dates.
  • Label and package prescriptions in accordance with regulatory guidelines and protocols.
  • Ensure the pharmacy environment is organized, clean, and up to industry standards of hygiene.
  • Provide general administrative support, including maintaining patient records and processing insurance claims.
  • Receive and store incoming pharmaceutical supplies, ensuring accurate documentation and storage practices.
  • Help manage cash register operations and complete sales transactions of medications and other products.
  • Assist with proper disposal of pharmaceutical waste following health and safety regulations.
  • Educate patients about proper medication usage and potential side effects as directed by pharmacists.
  • Address customer inquiries with professionalism and direct complex queries to the pharmacist.
  • Participate in training sessions to stay updated on pharmacy practices, software systems, and new products.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required; further education is advantageous.
  • Previous work experience in a pharmacy or healthcare setting is preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential for patient interactions.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in handling prescriptions and inventory.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in using pharmacy software systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Commitment to providing high-quality customer service and maintaining patient confidentiality.
