We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Specialist Retina Surgeon to join a leading healthcare facility in Sharjah, UAE.

The ideal candidate will have advanced expertise in diagnosing and surgically managing retinal and vitreous disorders, including diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment, macular diseases, and complex vitreoretinal conditions. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent surgical skills, strong clinical judgment, and a commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centered ophthalmic care.

Key Responsibilities
      • Provide comprehensive consultation, diagnosis, treatment, and surgical management of retinal and vitreoretinal diseases.
      • Diagnose and manage diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment, macular degeneration, macular holes, epiretinal membranes, and retinal vascular disorders.
      • Perform pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) and other vitreoretinal surgical procedures within authorized clinical privileges.
      • Manage rhegmatogenous retinal detachments through appropriate surgical techniques, including vitrectomy, scleral buckling, and pneumatic retinopexy, where appropriately trained.
      • Perform intravitreal injections, including anti-VEGF therapy and other approved treatments.
      • Conduct retinal laser procedures, including panretinal photocoagulation and focal/grid laser treatments, when clinically indicated.
      • Evaluate and manage complex retinal conditions associated with diabetes, trauma, inflammation, and vascular diseases.
      • Interpret advanced retinal investigations, including optical coherence tomography (OCT), OCT angiography, fluorescein angiography, fundus photography, and B-scan ultrasonography.
      • Provide emergency assessment and management of acute retinal conditions, including retinal tears, retinal detachment, and vitreous hemorrhage.
      • Develop individualized surgical and non-surgical treatment plans based on clinical findings and diagnostic investigations.
      • Perform comprehensive pre-operative assessments, surgical planning, and post-operative follow-up.
      • Identify and manage surgical complications, including intraocular infection, recurrent retinal detachment, and postoperative inflammation.
      • Collaborate with ophthalmologists, endocrinologists, neurologists, and other multidisciplinary specialists.
      • Educate patients regarding retinal diseases, surgical procedures, treatment options, risks, and long-term visual outcomes.
      • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and ensure compliance with ophthalmic surgical protocols, infection control, and patient-safety standards.
      • Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, teaching, research, and CME activities.
Qualifications
          • MBBS/MD or equivalent recognized medical degree.
          • Recognized postgraduate qualification in Ophthalmology.
          • Board certification or equivalent recognized specialist qualification.
          • Completion of a recognized Vitreoretinal Surgery Fellowship or equivalent advanced surgical training.
          • Minimum 3–5 years of relevant post-specialization experience, including substantial experience in retinal surgery.
          • Demonstrated surgical expertise in pars plana vitrectomy, retinal detachment repair, and management of complex vitreoretinal disorders.
          • Strong experience in retinal imaging, laser treatment, and intravitreal injection procedures.
          • Proven ability to manage both medical and surgical retinal conditions independently within the approved scope of practice.
          • Eligible for MOHAP Specialist Ophthalmology classification/license in Sharjah, with appropriate vitreoretinal surgical privileges, subject to applicable UAE PQR requirements.
          • Excellent surgical judgment, communication, teamwork, and patient-management skills.
