Job Description

A Quantity Surveyor plays a crucial role in the construction and real estate industry, ensuring that building projects are completed within budget, meeting both financial and contractual obligations. This position demands a blend of technical skills, financial acumen, and project management expertise. As a Quantity Surveyor, you will be involved in the project from the very outset, from feasibility studies and cost control tactics to final account negotiations. You will engage with various stakeholders, including architects, engineers, contractors, and clients, to reconcile costs and manage all phases of the construction lifecycle. The role requires a meticulous attention to detail, strong negotiation skills, and an in-depth understanding of construction methodologies, legal guidelines, and financial advisories. Your expertise is pivotal in influencing overall project success, making cost-effective decisions, and optimizing the allocation of resources.


Responsibilities

  • Prepare and manage construction project budgets, estimates, and cost plans accurately.
  • Conduct detailed feasibility studies to analyze project financial viability and potential risks.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for contractual and financial negotiations.
  • Maintain and update documentation related to cost control and contracts consistently.
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, and contractors during project planning and execution phases.
  • Assess and implement effective risk management strategies to minimize financial discrepancies.
  • Track project progress against the plan, ensuring timely and accurate budget reconciliations.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers, contractors, and stakeholders effectively.
  • Provide periodic reports and financial insights to the project management team and clients.
  • Ensure compliance with legal, contractual, and procedural standards at all project stages.
  • Manage final account negotiations, ensuring fair and equitable settlements with contractors.
  • Evaluate and process payment applications, resolving any discrepancies with contractors or suppliers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • At least three years of experience in a relevant quantity surveying role.
  • Proficiency in cost management software and other relevant technical tools.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, contracts, and legal frameworks.
  • Excellent analytical, negotiation, and decision-making skills are required.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with attention to detail.
  • Professional membership or certification (such as RICS) is highly desirable.
