The Performance Engineer is responsible for flight operations performance matters in terms of safety, regulatory compliance, and efficiency. The role focuses on aircraft performance, degradation, and operational limitations, including but not limited to procedure design, flight operations system administration, and operational procedures. The engineer ensures that aircraft performance data and systems are accurate, updated, and aligned with manufacturer and regulatory standards.
Key Result Responsibilities
Key activities:
Ensure continuous improvement of operational processes.
Provide technical flight operations information and reports such as, but not limited to aircraft performance, weight and balance, navigation, fuel and operational efficiency, based on technical documents such as, but not limited to, civil aviation regulations, aircraft manual, company procedures.
Design and performance evaluation of special operational procedures such as, but not limited to, escape routes, engine out procedures (SID, MA), RNAV, MA, GNSS, RNP, RNP-AR, VRNAV.
Participate in fleet studies, options, fleet features, and similar to provide operational analysis and operational implications.
Monitoring aircraft performance degradation APM and investigation of performance variation causes.
Communicate, comply, and ensure compliance in their areas of the company and aviation policies, standards and procedures of operational safety, including best practices.
Airport studies of characteristics and operational limitations.
Manage and control flight operations systems and databases. This includes data administration, content revision and validation, coding of tailored operational procedures, and terrain database management.
Liaison and direct contact for internal and external services provided of operational systems and operational data.
Provide technical flight operations support and coordination to company stakeholders. Support covers flight operations systems, aircraft performance and best practices, including implementing or updating operational procedures.
Administration of the takeoff, landing procedures limitations according to airport requirements, ascent climb gradients validations, go-around gradients, miss approach gradients, and landing gradients, taking into account the applicable AOC, fleet, regulation(s) and best practices.
Administration of all applicable software, services, and configurations required to execute all tasks related to the flight operations performance engineer's duties.
Provide support before the different audits of entities that regulate the processes and operational procedures of the company such as, but not limited to, QA, DGAC, and IOSA audits.
Issuance of technical investigations, research, publications, or documents for operational areas to inform about operational limitations, procedures, efficiencies and aviation best practices.
Qualifications (Academic, Training, Languages)
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent from a recognized university is highly required for this role.
A diploma in a related field is acceptable if combined with the necessary work experience and a proven track record.
Must have completed “Performance Engineering” training from an aircraft manufacturer.
Deep understanding of the software development process, data analysis technologies, and applicable engineering performance tools.
Deep understanding of fuel emissions, regulations, and related topics.
Knowledge of EFB systems, regulations, and related technologies.
Knowledge of fuel efficiency and aviation best practices.
Knowledge of Weight and Balance engineering, analysis, and optimization.
Deep understanding of datalink, ARINC standards, and related communication systems and technologies.
Strong knowledge of aircraft performance and procedure design. Knowledge of European and Middle Eastern airspace is preferred.
Good written and verbal communication skills, technical report writing, presentations, etc.
Work Experience
5+ years of experience in an airline or aircraft manufacturer company, in the Flight Engineering department, as a certified Flight Operations Engineer. Experience with a low-cost airline is preferred. A dispatch license is a plus.
Comprehensive knowledge of the regulations of Civil Aviation Authorities and regulatory bodies. Familiar with the rules and regulations of local Civil Aviation Authorities, ICAO, CAR, FAR, JAR, and IOSA pertaining to Flight Operations and working procedures.
Exposure to QA, Safety, Security, and practices related to and affecting Flight Operations.
Capable of applying policies and procedures in accordance with approved standards and regulations.
Comfortable working in a matrix environment.
Capable of performing in a changing environment with heavy workloads and ad-hoc scenarios.
Proven skills in analysing data, identifying pitfalls, and recommending alternatives.
Performs with high accuracy and attention to detail.
Quick learner and self-starter who requires minimal supervision to perform effectively in a dynamic environment.
