Identiscents is seeking a skilled Lab Analyst to join our Research & Development and Quality Control teams. The Lab Analyst will perform analytical and physical testing on raw materials, intermediates, and finished products within the perfume and cosmetic sectors. This role ensures products meet internal standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices. The analyst will utilize various laboratory instruments and chromatographic methods to support product development, quality assurance, and troubleshooting efforts.
Key Responsibilities
Sample Preparation & Analysis:
Prepare and test samples of fragrances, essential oils, cosmetic formulations, and packaging materials.
Perform chemical, physical, and sensory analyses using chromatographic techniques (GC-MS, HPLC), FTIR, UV-Vis, Karl Fischer titration, pH meters, viscosity meters, etc.
Operate, calibrate, and troubleshoot chromatographic instruments (gas and liquid).
Conduct microbiological testing when required.
Data Recording & Reporting:
Accurately document all test results, chromatograms, observations, and deviations in lab notebooks or LIMS.
Generate detailed analytical reports for internal teams and external stakeholders.
Interpret chromatographic data and communicate findings effectively to R&D, production, and quality assurance teams.
Quality Assurance:
Ensure compliance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), ISO standards, and company SOPs.
Participate in method validation and instrument calibration activities.
Assist in investigating non-conforming products and implement corrective actions.
Product Development Support:
Collaborate with fragrance evaluators, formulators, and product developers on new projects.
Support stability studies through sample preparation and periodic analysis.
Take part in sensory panels evaluating fragrances and cosmetic products.
Safety & Housekeeping:
Maintain a clean and organized laboratory environment.
Follow all health, safety, and environmental protocols.
Ensure proper disposal of chemicals and laboratory waste.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelors degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Cosmetic Science, or related field.
Experience: Minimum of 2 years in a laboratory role within the perfume or cosmetic industry.
Technical Skills:
Proficient with chromatographic systems (GC-MS, HPLC), including operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and data interpretation.
Knowledge of raw material specifications for fragrances or cosmetics.
Familiarity with regulatory frameworks such as IFRA, REACH, FDA, EU Cosmetics Regulation.
Soft Skills:
Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Problem-solving aptitude and scientific curiosity.
Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
Physical & Environmental Conditions
Work involves handling chemicals and fragrances; proper PPE use required.
Standing for long periods; occasional lifting up to 20 lbs.
