Qualifications

  • E: PhD in Maritime Business, Maritime Studies, Shipping, Logistics, Supply Chain, Transport, Business Administration, or a closely related discipline from a recognised university. 
  • P: Master’s and bachelor’s degree in a relevant maritime, business, logistics, transport, or related discipline. 

     

Experience 

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant higher education teaching experience following completion of the PhD, preferably at the level of Senior Lecturer, Assistant Professor, or equivalent 
  • academic rank. 
  • Demonstrated subject-matter knowledge and academic experience in Maritime Business, including areas such as shipping and port management, maritime economics, maritime logistics, supply chain management, maritime law, or related fields. 
  • Demonstrated experience in curriculum development, course delivery, assessment, and academic quality assurance. 
  • Evidence of scholarly activity and research, including peer-reviewed publications or other recognised academic outputs relevant to the discipline. 
  • Evidence of academic progression and contribution to higher education, such as programme/course leadership, supervision, research projects, accreditation activities, or academic administration. 
  • Industry or professional experience in the maritime, shipping, ports, logistics, or related sectors is highly desirable and will be considered an advantage

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach a set of subjects (such as Chartering, Commercial Ship Management, Maritime Business, Marine Insurance & Finance across all types of degree and diploma levels) as asked by the Head to the students using a suitable style while satisfying the requirements of the Academy.
  • Use appropriate, innovative and effective pedagogic approach in the classroom. Deliver lectures and lead seminar groups as appropriate.
  • Participate in the examination/ assessment process including the setting of papers, preparing marking schemes, agreeing marks with other staff. Use appropriate and innovative forms of assessment practices to enhance learning and teaching.
  • Responsible for updating own discipline knowledge to develop research informed teaching. Bring latest research-based knowledge in the classroom.
  • Ensure full compliance with the requirements of the timetable and the annual academic calendar.
  • Conduct research for career development, aligning with the Academy’s ambition to be research-active institution.
  • Provide timely, constructive, formative and comprehensive feedback to students using all forms of communication.
  • Deliver courses in other departments as required by the Line Manager.
  • Contribute to program and institutional quality assurance, academic advising, and committee work.
  • Assist Head of Maritime Business Program as required to fulfil the Academy’s strategic priorities
  • Be willing to travel as required and occasionally work outside of standard working hours as in the contract.

  • E: Ability to integrate theory and practice through case studies, simulations, and applied research.
  • E: Team player, approachable, sensitive towards all cultures.
  • E: Work as and when required under pressure with the intention to complete task as promptly and efficiently as is possible.
