Job Description

As an Environmental Safety Officer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the workplace adheres to regulatory safety standards and environmental conservation practices. Your primary responsibility is to develop, implement, and oversee policies that minimize occupational hazards and environmental impacts. You will conduct site inspections, risk assessments, and safety audits to evaluate compliance with safety protocols and environmental regulations. Your role involves collaborating with management, employees, and external agencies to foster a culture of safety and environmental stewardship. Staying updated on industry trends and changes in legislation is vital to ensure our organization remains compliant and promotes sustainability goals.


Responsibilities

  • Develop and enforce environmental and safety policies and procedures throughout the organization.
  • Conduct regular site inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Coordinate and provide safety training sessions for employees across various departments.
  • Monitor and analyze incident reports to implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Collaborate with management to establish practices that promote a safe working environment.
  • Prepare and submit reports on safety and environmental compliance to relevant authorities.
  • Stay updated with changes in environmental laws and occupational health regulations.
  • Lead investigations into accidents and near-misses and recommend improvements.
  • Develop emergency response plans and conduct regular drills to prepare employees.
  • Advise on best practices for waste management and resource conservation efforts.
  • Coordinate with external agencies to ensure comprehensive environmental assessments.
  • Promote a proactive approach to hazard management through risk assessments and planning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Safety Management, or related field required.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in a similar environmental safety role.
  • Proven knowledge of environmental legislation and occupational safety regulations.
  • Strong analytical skills to assess risk and implement effective safety measures.
  • Excellent communication skills for training and policy dissemination purposes.
  • Ability to work independently and lead safety-related initiatives with minimal supervision.
  • Certification in Occupational Health and Safety or similar credential is highly desirable.
