The College of Architecture, Art and Design (CAAD) at American University of Sharjah (AUS) invites applications for a regular or visiting faculty position in design management—at the assistant professor level—in the Department of Art and Design. The position provides an opportunity to contribute to a dynamic and diverse learning environment with students from approximately 90 countries. CAAD has established a reputation as a leader in design education in the region. Its alumni have gone on to study at top graduate programs and have established themselves as experts in creative industries across the region. AUS has been ranked among the top 200 programs globally in the Art and Design subject area by QS World University Subject Rankings (2024).
CAAD offers five undergraduate programs leading to degrees in architecture, interior design, visual communication, multimedia design and design management, along with a Master of Urban Planning. The Department of Art and Design also offers minors in design management, film, illustration and animation, photography and product design. The curriculum is grounded in an American liberal arts model integrated with professional education. All courses are taught in English. Website: www.aus.edu/caad. All positions come with a competitive salary and an attractive benefits package inclusive of free housing and generous retirement contributions along with funding for annual return airfare, school tuition for dependents and health insurance. Successful candidates are expected to assume duties in August 2025.
The successful candidate will primarily teach courses in the Bachelor of Science in Design Management degree program and must be able to teach in more than one of the following areas: creative strategy and execution, design thinking, design research, strategic storytelling, user-centered design, service design, strategic design and innovation ecosystems. A terminal degree (MFA or PhD) in design management or a related area is required along with creative skills, digital fluency, as well as relevant academic and professional experience.
In addition to teaching, faculty are required to mentor students, engage in scholarly activities (which can include creative work, published research or both) and participate in service activities for the college, university and community. Creative work and research are important for the department and the university. Successful candidates will not only have access to excellent research opportunities but also generous financial support from the university to develop their scholarship. Applicants should have an excellent record of teaching and scholarship from a reputable university or the potential for developing such a record.
