The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) is a new senior leadership position within the Sharjah Education Academy.The purpose of the position is to provide academic, intellectual, and strategic leadership to shape and guide SEA’s mission and growth.
The DVC Academic will ensure, through SEA’s three Deans (Education, Continuous Professional Learning and Research) that the Academy’s research and educational outputs are academically rigorous, socially relevant, and regionally transformative.
This role is responsible for overseeing all academic affairs, including academic planning, curriculum development, faculty matters, the quality of teaching, learning and research and institutional partnerships.
The DVC (Academic) reports directly to the Vice-Chancellor and works collaboratively with other senior administrators and academic leaders to develop and implement the Academy’s strategic vision and plan.
The incumbent will be an established and dynamic academic leader with a strong track record in research and policy development as well as have a deep understanding of teacher and school education. They will play a pivotal role in driving SEA’s impact on education transformation nationally and within the GCC region.
Key Responsibilities Include
Strategic Academic Leadership:
Lead the development and implementation of the Academys academic strategy, ensuring alignment with the overall institutional goals in collaboration with the Academy’s Executive.
Plan sustainable new programs aligned with the Academy’s vision and mission. Create foundations for growth and diversification in and through new markets, new initiatives, courses and relationships.
Leadership Of The Senior Academic Team
Line management and leadership of the Dean of Education, Dean of Continuous Professional Learning and Dean of Research.
Academic Planning And Quality
Oversee academic planning processes, including curriculum development, program review, assessment of learning outcomes, accreditation and the Academy’s research performance and strategy
Faculty Affairs
Lead faculty workforce planning, recruitment, development, and performance, and fostering a supportive and inclusive academic environment.
Teaching And Learning
Promote excellence in teaching and learning practices, supporting faculty in pedagogical innovation, and ensuring a high-quality student learning experience.
Academic Policies And Procedures
Develop and implement academic policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure consistency and quality across the Academy and an excellent student experience.
Accreditation And Quality Assurance
Monitor academic accreditation and quality assurance processes through the Dean of Education.
Research And Scholarship
Promote a vibrant research culture, supporting and mentoring faculty in their research endeavours.
Budget Management
Manage the academic budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources to support academic priorities.
Representation And Advocacy
Represent the Academy’s academic interests in internal and external forums, advocating for academic excellence and innovation.
Key Skills And Qualifications
Senior Academic Leadership Experience:
Significant experience in a senior academic leadership role, such as Dean or Head of Faculty/School.
Proven Academic Credentials
A strong academic record in teaching research and scholarship.
Strategic Thinking And Planning
Ability to develop and implement strategic academic plans, aligning academic priorities with institutional goals.
Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills
Ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including faculty, students, and administrators.
Knowledge Of Higher Education Policy And Practice
A thorough understanding of higher education policies, regulations, best practices and contemporary research and practice in teacher education.
Commitment To Academic Excellence And Innovation
A passion for promoting academic excellence, innovation, and student success.
