This opportunity is suitable for internationally trained medical professionals with recognised specialist qualifications and experience in clinical microbiology, infectious disease diagnostics, and laboratory medicine.
The successful candidate will support accurate diagnosis and management of infectious diseases through laboratory investigation, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, quality assurance, and collaboration with clinical teams.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee and interpret microbiological investigations involving bacterial, viral, fungal, and parasitic infections.
Review and validate laboratory results, including culture reports, microscopy findings, and antimicrobial susceptibility testing.
Support the diagnosis and management of complex infectious diseases through accurate interpretation of microbiology results.
Advise clinicians on appropriate specimen collection, diagnostic testing, and interpretation of microbiological findings.
Provide guidance on antimicrobial selection and resistance patterns in collaboration with treating physicians and antimicrobial stewardship teams.
Monitor emerging antimicrobial resistance and contribute to infection prevention and control initiatives.
Support hospital infection surveillance and investigations of suspected healthcare-associated infections and outbreaks.
Establish and maintain laboratory quality-control procedures in accordance with applicable standards.
Ensure compliance with biosafety requirements, laboratory protocols, and regulatory guidelines.
Collaborate with infectious disease specialists, infection-control teams, laboratory scientists, and other healthcare professionals.
Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) from a recognised institution, where required for the physician specialist pathway.
Recognised postgraduate specialist qualification in Clinical Microbiology, Medical Microbiology, or an equivalent relevant specialty.
UK CCT, American Board Certification, Australian specialist qualification, or an equivalent recognised specialist qualification is preferred.
Relevant experience in clinical microbiology diagnostics, laboratory interpretation, and infectious disease investigations.
Strong knowledge of antimicrobial susceptibility testing, infection control, and antimicrobial resistance.
Experience with laboratory quality management systems and accreditation standards is desirable.
Excellent analytical, communication, and multidisciplinary teamwork skills.
Eligibility for the relevant professional licensing category in the UAE, subject to the health authoritys qualification and experience requirements.
