Our new Chief Engineer will lead and coach a small but talented engineering team to stay one step ahead of our everyday maintenance needs.
A little taste of your day-to-day:
Every day is different, but you’ll mostly be:
- Lead the Engineering team to ensure the efficient operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of all hotel facilities, plant, and equipment.
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance programmes to maximise asset performance and minimise downtime.
- Ensure the safety, comfort, and satisfaction of guests by maintaining the hotel to the highest operational and brand standards.
- Oversee engineering projects, renovations, and capital expenditure initiatives from planning through completion.
- Manage the engineering budget, monitor expenses, and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
- Ensure full compliance with health, safety, fire, environmental, and local regulatory requirements.
- Build strong relationships with contractors, suppliers, government authorities, and other external partners.
- Drive sustainability initiatives by improving energy efficiency, reducing waste, and supporting IHG's environmental goals.
- Lead, coach, and develop the Engineering team, creating a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.
- Support emergency response planning and ensure all critical systems remain operational at all times.
- Collaborate closely with other departments to support hotel operations and deliver exceptional guest experiences.
- Be ready to respond quickly and effectively to operational challenges and emergency maintenance situations.
What We need from you:
- A diploma or bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil Engineering, or a related technical field.
- A minimum of 5 to 7 years of engineering experience within the hospitality industry, including leadership experience in a similar role.
- Strong technical knowledge of building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, fire life safety, and building management systems.
- Proven experience managing preventive maintenance programmes, engineering projects, and capital expenditure.
- Strong knowledge of local health, safety, fire, and environmental regulations.
- Excellent leadership and people management skills with the ability to motivate and develop high-performing teams.
- Strong financial acumen with experience managing departmental budgets and controlling costs.
- Excellent problem-solving, organisational, and decision-making skills.
- Professional engineering certifications or trade licences relevant to the role are highly desirable and may be required by local regulations.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and with external partners.
