Biomedical Manager

Manage the hospital’s complete inventory of biomedical and medical equipment.

Ensure medical equipment is installed, tested, commissioned, maintained, calibrated, and operated in accordance with applicable requirements.

Develop and monitor preventive maintenance and calibration schedules.

Ensure timely corrective maintenance and minimize equipment downtime.

Monitor equipment performance, reliability, utilization, and service history.

Establish appropriate processes for equipment condemnation, decommissioning, disposal, and replacement.

Maintain accurate biomedical equipment asset records and maintenance documentation.
B. Preventive & Corrective Maintenance

Plan and supervise preventive maintenance activities for medical equipment.

Monitor breakdown calls and ensure timely response and resolution.

Prioritize critical equipment failures based on patient safety and operational requirements.

Investigate recurring equipment faults and implement corrective measures.

Review maintenance history and identify equipment requiring replacement or major repair.

Ensure appropriate testing is completed before repaired equipment is released back into clinical service.
C. Equipment Procurement & Commissioning

Support clinical departments and Procurement in identifying appropriate medical equipment.

Participate in technical evaluation of quotations, tenders, and equipment proposals.

Review technical specifications, warranties, maintenance requirements, consumables, accessories, and service contracts.

Coordinate equipment delivery, installation, testing, commissioning, and user acceptance.

Ensure required documentation, manuals, certificates, warranties, and training records are obtained.

Support hospital expansion, renovation, and new clinical service projects involving medical equipment.
D. Regulatory Compliance & Patient Safety

Ensure biomedical engineering activities comply with applicable healthcare regulations, accreditation requirements, hospital policies, and manufacturer recommendations.

Maintain documentation required for internal and external inspections and accreditation audits.

Ensure calibration and preventive maintenance certificates are current and traceable.

Support investigations relating to medical-device incidents, failures, or patient-safety concerns.

Coordinate necessary corrective actions, safety notices, recalls, and field-safety actions concerning medical equipment.

Participate in hospital quality, risk management, and patient safety initiatives.
E. Vendor & Contract Management

Manage relationships with medical equipment manufacturers, suppliers, and service providers.

Monitor Annual Maintenance Contracts (AMC), Comprehensive Maintenance Contracts (CMC), warranties, and service-level agreements.

Evaluate vendor/service-provider performance against agreed response times and service standards.

Verify service reports and ensure corrective actions are appropriately closed.

Support negotiation and renewal of maintenance contracts in coordination with Procurement and Finance.

Identify opportunities to reduce maintenance expenses without compromising equipment quality or patient safety.
F. Team Management

Lead, supervise, and develop Biomedical Engineers and Technicians.

Allocate responsibilities and monitor daily departmental activities.

Establish departmental objectives, KPIs, and performance standards.

Conduct staff competency assessments, coaching, training, and performance reviews.

Ensure appropriate duty coverage and escalation arrangements.

Encourage a culture of accountability, quality, safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
G. Asset & Budget Management

Maintain an accurate and updated medical equipment asset register.

Prepare annual biomedical operational and capital expenditure requirements.

Monitor maintenance expenditure, spare-parts costs, contracts, and equipment replacement costs.

Develop medical equipment replacement plans based on age, condition, utilization, serviceability, safety, and lifecycle cost.

Assist management with CAPEX planning and prioritization of medical equipment investment.

Ensure proper documentation of:

Preventive maintenance

Corrective maintenance

Calibration

Equipment breakdowns

Service reports

Equipment commissioning

Asset transfers

Equipment disposal

Vendor activities

Warranty and contract status

Prepare monthly and periodic biomedical engineering reports.

Present department performance information and equipment risks to management as required.

Maintain documentation in the hospitals CMMS/asset management system where applicable.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering, Medical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
 Master’s Degree in Biomedical/Clinical Engineering, Healthcare Management, or a related field is an advantage.
