Job Description

The Accountant, Research Accounting, supports the Research Accounting Manager in the financial administration of research and executive education projects. The incumbent will work closely with staff across the University, including the Finance Office, Research Office, Research Centers, Colleges, and Principal Investigators (PIs), to ensure the accurate and timely management of research-related financial activities. The role also involves coordinating with external funding agencies, auditors, and other stakeholders, as required.

Job Responsibilities

  • Process grant setup, grant extensions, and other system updates within the Oracle PPM module.
  • Ensure that invoices to external sponsors are prepared and processed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Liaise with sponsors and external stakeholders regarding financial reporting requirements.
  • Prepare and allocate indirect cost allocation (IDC) /overhead earned on projects.
  • Prepare the monthly payroll add-on schedule
  • Prepare journal vouchers (JVs) for cost allocations, corrections, and other financial adjustments.
  • Perform account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies, as required.
  • Coordinate with Colleges, the Research Office, Research Centers, and other administrative departments to obtain and provide financial information as needed.
  • Collaborate with Finance Office units, including General Accounting, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Payroll, to support research accounting operations.
  • Assist in the implementation of Finance transformation initiatives and continuous process improvement projects.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned in support of the objectives of the Finance Office and the University.

Qualifications And Skills Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of relevant accounting experience.
  • Sound knowledge of accounting principles and applicable accounting standards.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems, preferably Oracle Fusion or Ellucian Banner.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Microsoft Excel.

Preferred Qualifications And Skills

  • Professional accounting qualification such as ACCA, CIMA, CPA, ACA, or CMA.
  • Experience in research accounting and/or general accounting within a higher education environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and delivering high-quality financial services.
