The Pharmacy Technician role is responsible for providing assistance in the daily pharmaceutical operations by executing pharmacy related and administrative activities including but not limited to preparation and filling of prescriptions, maintenance of pharmacy inventory and ensuring safe and secure storage conditions of pharmaceutical medications and supplies in line with M42 and Department of Health policies, procedures, guidelines and standards. The incumbent is also responsible for preparing intravenous solutions, admixtures and medications by performing pharmaceutical dosage calculations and using aseptic techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Support day‑to‑day pharmaceutical operations, including preparation, double‑checking, labelling, and distribution of medications in alignment with local and international standards.
  • Maintain pharmacy inventory by monitoring stock levels, placing orders, verifying deliveries, and removing expired medications.
  • Receive and store incoming medication and supplies, ensuring proper handling and secure storage.
  • Prepare IV solutions, extemporaneous medications, and admixtures using aseptic techniques and correct dosage calculations for patients of all ages.
  • Identify and report inappropriate dosages when performing pharmaceutical calculations.
  • Operate and maintain pharmacy equipment, conducting routine checks and calibrations according to SOPs and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Assist with pharmacy administrative tasks, including prescription filling, label typing, filing charge slips, and maintaining accurate records.
  • Monitor pharmacy temperature, humidity, and storage conditions to ensure regulatory compliance and medication safety.
  • Provide support to the Pharmacy team in delivering medication information and pharmaceutical services to patients and healthcare providers.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Pharmacy program of minimum 2 years course duration
  • Minimum of 2 years experience post qualification in the pharmaceutical field
  • Completion of specialty qualification as per the recognized specialty certificate (DOH/DHA guidelines)
  • Knowledge of key pharmaceutical procedures and current best practices
  • Knowledge in pharmacy related regulations
