Mechanical Draftsman – Job Description

A Mechanical Draftsman is responsible for preparing accurate technical drawings and detailed layouts for mechanical systems based on engineering designs, specifications, and project requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare 2D mechanical drawings, shop drawings, and detailed layouts using AutoCAD.
  
• Develop drawings for HVAC, piping, equipment, ductwork, and mechanical services as required.
  
• Prepare GA (General Arrangement), fabrication, installation, and as-built drawings.
  
• Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and design calculations.
  
• Coordinate mechanical drawings with architectural, structural, electrical, plumbing, and fire-fighting drawings.
  
• Prepare sections, elevations, details, and connection drawings.
  
• Update drawings based on site conditions, engineer/client comments, and revisions.
  
• Conduct drawing checks to ensure dimensions, levels, materials, and technical details are accurate.
  
• Assist engineers and site teams with technical drawings and construction requirements.
  
• Prepare material take-off and quantity details when required.
  
• Maintain proper drawing numbering, revision control, and documentation.
  
• Ensure drawings comply with project specifications, relevant codes, and authority requirements.
  
• Coordinate with site engineers and project teams to resolve drawing-related issues.
  

Required Skills:

• Strong knowledge of AutoCAD and mechanical drafting.
  
• Understanding of HVAC, piping, mechanical equipment, and MEP coordination.
  
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  
• Knowledge of construction and installation practices.
  
• Good understanding of MEP coordination and clash resolution.
  
• Experience with Revit MEP/BIM is an advantage.
  
• Attention to detail and accuracy in preparing technical drawings.
