Job Description

The Secondary English Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering high-quality English lessons in accordance with the British Curriculum, enabling students to develop strong skills in reading, writing, speaking, listening, grammar, vocabulary and literary analysis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver engaging English lessons for secondary students in line with the British Curriculum.
  • Teach English Language and English Literature, as appropriate to the school's Key Stage and examination specifications.
  • Develop students' reading, writing, speaking and listening skills.
  • Teach a wide range of fiction, non-fiction, poetry, drama and literary texts.
  • Prepare students for GCSE, IGCSE, A-Level or other relevant British examinations, where applicable.
  • Develop students' analytical, critical-thinking, creative-writing and communication skills.
  • Plan lessons with clear learning objectives, appropriate challenge and measurable outcomes.
  • Differentiate learning activities and resources to meet the needs of students with different abilities, including high-achieving students and students requiring additional support.
  • Use a range of teaching strategies to promote active participation, independent learning and student engagement.
  • Regularly assess students' progress through formative and summative assessment.
  • Provide constructive and timely feedback that helps students improve their work.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attainment, progress and assessment.
  • Use assessment data to identify learning gaps and adapt teaching accordingly.
  • Establish high expectations for behaviour, effort, academic achievement and personal development.

  • Participation in extracurricular English, literary or performing-arts activities
