The Welding Engineer applies their conceptual knowledge of Welding and, with a moderate level of guidance and direction from colleagues and leadership, is responsible for solving a range of straightforward Welding problems. They will be responsible for analyzing possible solutions using standard procedures and building knowledge of the company, processes, and customers. The Welding Engineer understands critical business drivers and applies this knowledge to solve problems in straightforward situations by analyzing possible solutions using technical experience, judgment, and precedents.
Responsibilities
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
Responsible for the development of project welding procedures that comply with the applicable design, engineering, and construction codes, standards, and project specifications
Responsible for maintaining the project welder qualification program
Review customer drawings/specifications for material and welding requirements to determine the necessary WPS/PQR required to ensure the integrity of the weldment
Select the electrode/consumables and estimate quantities required for the project
Source materials required for WPS/PQRs
Determine joint design
Optimize the welding process
Apply code and specification requirements to the proposed WPS
Develop project and task-specific Welding Qualification Execution plans
Submittal of WPS PQR packages for the project
Toolbox talks and conducting welding kick-offs
Qualify welding procedures and welder qualifications through the execution of the welding plan
Supervise PQRs on-site and witness tests at the laboratory
Prepare weld procedure specifications
Review welder qualification tests and approve documentation
Assess the quantity of production weld testing required and ensure their timely performance and testing
Consult with the customer’s engineers and Production Supervisor on metallurgical and welding problems to determine or implement resolution
Assist in the development of automatic welding systems and new methodology (for AWS Engineer)
Supervise/monitor work at the metallurgical laboratory
Supervise the welding school activities
Supervise welder training
Vendor’s welding documents review
Liaise with Welding School Supervisor, Production Supervisor, Certifying Authority
Qualifications
Essential Qualifications and Education:
Requires to have an International Welding Engineer or European Welding Engineer certification
4-year BS Degree in Welding Engineering/Metallurgical Engineering/Mechanical Engineering
3+ years in Welding/Metallurgy aspects for Fabrication and Construction Industry
Welding technology preferred
Understanding of NDT techniques preferred
Inspection Qualification preferred
