A TIG Welder (Gas Tungsten Arc Welder) is responsible for performing high-precision welding tasks using the TIG process to fabricate, repair, or modify metal components. This role requires strong knowledge of welding techniques, metallurgy, safety procedures, and the ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
Key ResponsibilitiesWelding & Fabrication
Perform high-quality TIG welding on stainless steel, carbon steel, aluminum, and specialty alloys.
Set up welding equipment, select appropriate filler rods, and adjust parameters for optimal weld quality.
Fabricate or repair metal structures, piping, or components according to engineering requirements.
Ensure welds meet dimensional accuracy, strength requirements, and visual standards.
Blueprints & Documentation
Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, WPS/PQRs, and job instructions.
Complete welding documentation, inspection forms, and production records.
Quality & Inspection
Inspect welds for defects using visual, dimensional, or NDT (if certified) methods.
Make necessary adjustments to techniques or equipment to maintain quality standards.
Follow industry codes and standards (e.g., ASME, AWS D1.1, ISO standards as applicable).
Safety & Maintenance
Operate equipment safely and follow all welding safety procedures (PPE, ventilation, fire prevention, etc.).
Maintain and troubleshoot welding equipment and tools.
Keep work area clean and organized.
Qualifications & SkillsRequired
Proven experience as a TIG Welder or equivalent technical apprenticeship.
Ability to weld thin and thick materials with precision.
Strong understanding of TIG welding parameters and filler materials.
Proficiency with grinders, saws, cutting torches, and basic fabrication equipment.
Ability to read and interpret technical documents.
Good manual dexterity, attention to detail, and steady hand–eye coordination.
Preferred (Optional)
AWS or ASME welding certifications.
Experience with pipe welding or orbital welding.
Knowledge of additional welding processes (MIG, Stick, Flux-core).
NDT exposure (VT, PT, MT).
Work Environment
Fabrication shop, manufacturing facility, yard, or field location.
Exposure to welding arcs, fumes, heavy equipment, and industrial hazards.
