Job Description

As a Water Quality Technician, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that water is safe to use and consume. You will be responsible for collecting and analyzing water samples from various sources, including municipal supplies, rivers, and private wells. Your findings will help to maintain compliance with environmental regulations and health standards. The role requires a strong foundation in chemistry, biology, and environmental science, as well as experience with laboratory testing and data analysis. You will work closely with engineers, scientists, and regulatory bodies to address water quality issues and are expected to have excellent attention to detail. Strong communication skills are essential as you will need to report findings and make recommendations based on your analyses.


Responsibilities

  • Collect and analyze water samples from diverse environmental and municipal sources.
  • Perform chemical, biological, and physical analyses of water samples effectively.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of water quality monitoring programs.
  • Document findings and compile reports for regulatory and compliance purposes.
  • Calibrate and maintain testing equipment to ensure accurate measurements and safety.
  • Liaise with environmental agencies and communicate water quality issues promptly.
  • Identify pollution sources and suggest corrective action plans as necessary.
  • Stay updated on federal and state water quality regulations and guidelines.
  • Participate in fieldwork to gather environmental data and support related research.
  • Train and supervise junior staff and interns in water sampling techniques.
  • Conduct environmental impact assessments to determine water quality impacts.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations on water quality findings to stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, or a related field.
  • At least two years of experience in water quality testing or analysis.
  • Proficiency with laboratory equipment and related testing methodologies.
  • Strong analytical skills with expertise in statistical and data interpretation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for report writing and presentations.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Familiarity with environmental software and software applications used in water testing.
  • Knowledge of EPA regulations and similar state-level regulatory guidelines.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to various testing sites.
