Job Description

As a veterinary nurse, you will play a vital role in the healthcare and well-being of animals in a veterinary setting. Your main duty will be to assist veterinarians in the treatment of animals, ensuring they receive the best care possible. This includes preparing animals for surgery, monitoring their recovery, administering medications, and providing general nursing care. You will also be responsible for educating pet owners on optimal care practices for their pets. A successful veterinary nurse must possess strong communication skills, a deep compassion for animals, and the ability to handle stress and emergencies with poise. Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinarians in the examination and treatment of animals in clinical settings.
  • Administer medications and vaccinations as prescribed by the veterinarian.
  • Monitor and record vital signs of animals undergoing procedures or treatments.
  • Prepare animals for surgery, including shaving, antiseptic application, and anesthetic administration.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of examination rooms and surgical areas.
  • Educate pet owners about post-operative care and proper nutrition for their pets.
  • Handle animals safely and with compassion during examinations and treatments.
  • Assist with laboratory tests by collecting and processing specimens as directed.
  • Update medical records with accurate information on treatments administered.
  • Participate in the maintenance and inventory of veterinary supplies and equipment.
  • Provide emergency care to animals in distress and triage responsibilities as needed.
  • Collaborate with veterinary staff to ensure high-quality care for all animal patients.

Requirements

  • Possess a degree in veterinary nursing or relevant certification from an accredited institution.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a veterinary clinic or hospital setting preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact with clients.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask effectively under pressure.
  • Compassionate and patient demeanor with a strong passion for animal care.
  • Knowledge of animal anatomy, common diseases, and medical terminology necessary.
  • Flexibility to work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays, as needed.
