Job Description

A Veterinarian is a qualified medical professional specializing in the health and well-being of animals. Continuously updating knowledge on veterinary medicine and technology is crucial in this field. Furthermore, they play a critical role in public health by controlling zoonotic diseases and implementing animal population control measures.


Responsibilities

  • Examine animals to assess their health and diagnose medical conditions.
  • Perform surgical procedures, including sterilizations, wound treatment, and other surgeries.
  • Administer vaccinations to prevent diseases such as rabies and distemper.
  • Advise pet owners on nutrition, preventive healthcare and general animal care.
  • Prescribe medications and provide detailed instructions for their use.
  • Conduct medical tests and imaging to diagnose injuries, illnesses, and possible complications.
  • Maintain accurate medical records of patients, including treatments and progress notes.
  • Participate in continuing education to stay updated on the latest veterinary practices.
  • Collaborate with veterinary team members to provide comprehensive and effective care.
  • Respond to emergency calls to provide timely medical intervention for animals.
  • Promote animal health and wellness through public education programs and initiatives.
  • Oversee the operation of veterinary clinics, including management of staff and resources.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from an accredited institution.
  • Valid state veterinary license and necessary certifications as required.
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills in veterinary medicine.
  • Proficient in performing a variety of animal surgeries and medical procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills to educate pet owners about medical conditions.
  • Ability to handle and care for large and small animals safely and effectively.
  • Willingness to work irregular hours, including nights and weekends, as needed.
