Job Description

The role of a Transportation Manager is pivotal in any organization that depends on the efficient movement of goods and people. As a Transportation Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing and optimizing the logistics and transportation systems, ensuring that vehicles are running efficiently, goods are delivered on time, and operations are cost-effective. This position requires strong organizational skills, as well as the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. You will lead and evaluate the performance of the transportation team, resolve issues related to shipping and delivery, and maintain compliance with transportation regulations. A successful Transportation Manager is resourceful, communicates effectively, and has a keen sense of time management and problem-solving skills.


Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and oversee the scheduling of transportation to optimize efficiency.
  • Evaluate and implement transportation management systems for better tracking and analysis.
  • Monitor the performance and safety of all transportation activities and personnel.
  • Develop and manage budgets for transportation operations and projects.
  • Negotiate contracts with external transport service providers to ensure cost-effectiveness.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal transportation regulations.
  • Analyze transportation data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Develop and enforce policies and procedures to improve transportation performance.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure smooth operations and customer satisfaction.
  • Manage and maintain relationships with vendors and suppliers for operational needs.
  • Oversee the recruitment, training, and performance evaluation of transportation staff.
  • Implement safety programs to reduce incidents and improve the wellbeing of the team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in transportation or logistics management.
  • Proven experience with transportation management systems and software.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex data sets.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with all levels of staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets and improve cost-efficiency.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of transportation regulations and safety protocols.
