Job Description

The Transportation Manager is a key player in the logistics and distribution sectors, responsible for overseeing the efficient operation of vehicle fleets, route planning, and coordination with drivers and warehouse teams. Their main goal is to ensure the smooth and cost-effective movement of goods and materials, while maintaining compliance with all transportation regulations. This role involves regular analysis of transportation costs, evaluating routing efficiency, implementing new policies to improve transportation operations, and ensuring high standards of safety and customer service. A Transportation Manager also liaises with various stakeholders, including customers, suppliers, and internal staff, to provide timely support and solutions to transportation-related challenges.


Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement transportation policies to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Manage and monitor the performance of transportation staff including drivers and coordinators.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and transportation laws at all times.
  • Plan and optimize routes for cost-effectiveness and timely delivery of goods.
  • Oversee procurement and maintenance of transportation equipment and vehicles.
  • Coordinate with warehouse and logistics teams for streamlined operations.
  • Analyze fleet performance data to identify areas for improvement and savings.
  • Liaise with vendors and suppliers to negotiate the best transportation rates.
  • Maintain accurate records of vehicle logs, maintenance, and cargo movements.
  • Provide training and development opportunities for transportation staff.
  • Report on transportation operations, costs, and issues to senior management.
  • Develop contingency plans for transportation disruptions and emergencies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in transportation management or logistic operations management.
  • Strong knowledge of transportation regulations and safety standards.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills for varied transportation needs.
  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills for team management.
  • Proficiency in using logistics and transportation management software tools.
  • Ability to analyze data and make informed decisions to improve operations.
