The technical support-Plant Molecular Biology will actively support the Desert Life Sciences Laboratory at the International Center for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA) in field and lab activities aimed at the genetic improvement of quinoa and other crop plants.
Job Responsibilities
Key responsibilities will include:
Performing high molecular weight DNA/RNA extraction from field crops for sequencing and genetic analysis.
Designing primers for molecular assays.
Genotyping of various breeding populations using various kinds of molecular markers
Sequencing library preparation and assisting with sequencing tasks.
Maintaining and upkeeping the Desert Life Science Laboratory.
Data compilation and report preparation.
Perform high-quality extraction of high molecular weight DNA and RNA from field-grown crop samples for downstream sequencing and genetic analyses.
Design, optimize, and validate primers for identified InDel markers various molecular biology and genomics assays.
Conduct genotyping of diverse breeding populations using different types of molecular markers.
Prepare sequencing libraries and provide technical support during sequencing workflows, including sample quality control and coordination of sequencing tasks.
Maintain, manage, and ensure the proper functioning, cleanliness, and safety compliance of the Desert Life Science Laboratory, including routine equipment upkeep.
Compile experimental data, maintain accurate laboratory records, and prepare technical reports and documentation as required.
Detailed Deliverables and Outputs
High-quality, high molecular weight DNA and RNA samples extracted from field-grown crop materials, meeting required standards for sequencing and genetic analysis.
Validated primer sets designed and optimized for approved molecular assays, along with proper documentation of primer sequences and assay conditions.
Genotyping data generated for assigned breeding populations using relevant molecular markers, with accuracy, reproducibility, and proper data organization.
Sequencing-ready libraries prepared according to standard protocols, and successful support provided for sequencing runs, including quality control reports.
Well-maintained Desert Life Science Laboratory, including functional equipment, updated inventory records, adherence to safety protocols, and organized laboratory workspaces.
Compiled datasets, laboratory records, and periodic technical reports summarizing experimental methods, results, and interpretations, submitted within agreed timelines.
Qualifications and Experience
Master’s in plant breeding/ biotechnology/ plant molecular biology or allied fields.
Proficiency in English and Arabic written and spoken
