POSITION SUMMARY:

The Sustainability Engineer is responsible to oversee implementation of sustainable engineering strategies and projects. These strategies are designed to reduce waste and emissions, alignment with energy management strategies, renewable resources and promote environmental stewardship within the AMSS department and in sustainable project design and construction while driving continuous improvement in sustainability performance.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:

The Sustainability Engineer will conduct site audits, review FMSP’s sustainability initiatives and performance, oversee measurement and verification processes, manage implementation of sustainable solutions and integrate innovative technologies. Additionally, this role includes conducting internal audits, ensuring local regulation compliance, evaluating service providers, and facilitating continuous improvement workshops.

Development & Implementation of Sustainability Projects:

  • Assist in implementing, and monitoring Wasl Corporate & AMSS department sustainability strategies.
  • Oversee the implementation of sustainability strategies in existing projects.
  • Sustainability Strategy Development: Collaborate with internal teams and FMSPs to formulate and execute sustainability strategies that align with corporate objectives and industry best practices
  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Collect, analyze, and report on sustainability metrics, providing insights and recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Contract management : Contract and vendor management for Sustainability projects, with routine evaluations of site performance and deliverables.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with internal and external stakeholders, fostering awareness and cooperation to promote sustainability goals.


Sustainability Audits & Operational Performance of FMSP:

  • Conduct site audits on Wasl assets and supervise FMSP’s implementation on initiatives on Energy, Water, Waste, IAQ and other sustainability matrix.
  • Ensure processes are in place for monitoring and continuous improvement of FMSPs sustainable activities.
  • Conduct site assessments and produce reports on findings.
  • Review ongoing FM related performance such as PPM and other regular maintenance activities.
  • Carry out Continuous Improvement workshops (CIW) with FMSP and review CIW regularly.
  • Prepare facility inspection reports and compliance records.
  • Analyze energy consumption across Wasl assets and conduct annual M&V activities to track ongoing energy management and sustainability performance.


ISO 50001 Implementation:

  • Gather energy usage data from meters, sensors, and systems.
  • Monitor energy performance indicators (EnPIs).
  • Track improvements against the energy baseline (EnB).
  • Recommend energy-efficient systems, processes, and equipment.
  • Participate in energy reviews to evaluate past and current energy use.
  • Help identify opportunities for energy performance improvement.
  • Align engineering practices with ISO 50001 clauses.
  • Support the creation and updating of documentation (e.g., energy plans, operating procedures).
  • Promote energy awareness in operations and maintenance.
  • Work with the Energy Manager or ISO 50001 Coordinator.


Technology Innovation & IoT:

  • Identify and propose pilot technology solutions to improve sustainability performance. Prepare pilot proposals at asset level for demonstration and approval.
  • Track the latest technology solutions in CAFM.
  • Identify technology solutions addressing the triple bottom line of sustainability.
  • Identify data-driven technology for predictive analysis.
  • Ensure full integration with Wasl smart building infrastructure.
  • Lead operations of central command control center with connectivity across Wasl assets.


Continuous Improvement:

  • Review the best initiatives implemented by FM service providers on-site on a monthly basis.
  • Conduct ongoing knowledge-sharing platforms with FM service providers to present the best initiatives quarterly.
  • Engage with and invite market-leading consultants on energy management, sustainability, asset management, and latest technology to present solutions in workshops with FM service providers, Wasl AMSS, and other Wasl departments.


CONTEXT, WORK ENVIRONMENT AND DECISION-MAKING AUTHORITY:

Context

  • The Sustainability Engineer supports the AMSS department in implementing corporate sustainability strategies across Wasl assets. The role ensures compliance with local regulations, drives energy and resource efficiency, and promotes continuous improvement through audits, data analysis, and technology integration. Collaboration with internal teams and external service providers is key to achieving sustainability objectives.


Work Environment

  • Primarily office-based with regular site visits for audits and inspections. The role involves cross-functional coordination with internal departments (AMSS, Hospitality, PM, Marketing, Business Excellence, Internal Audit) and external stakeholders (FMSPs, ESCOs, auditors, consultants, technology vendors). Utilizes CAFM systems, MS Office, and smart building technologies.


Decision-making authority

  • Recommends and oversees implementation of sustainability strategies and technologies.
  • Conducts audits and evaluations of FMSPs’ sustainability performance.
  • Recommends pilot proposals for technology solutions at asset level.
  • Provides data-driven insights for sustainability planning and compliance.
  • No direct financial authority.


Qualifications and Experience (Essential):

Qualifications ; Bachelor’s degree in engineering, or a related field in building services.

Experience : 5 years in related role


Qualifications and Experience (Desirable):

Qualifications ; Professional certifications in sustainability (e.g., CEM, CMVP, LEED AP, BREEAM, SFP), FM industry (e.g. CFM) and or ISO Internal / Lead Auditor certifications are preferred.

Experience : 8 years in related role
