Job Description: Product Development/Lab Tech Manager – LV Switchgear IEC
Job Purpose
A key member of the Product Development team in design, development and validation of LV switchgear, ensuring compliance with IEC 61439 and local UAE authority regulations (for example ADDC)
Key Responsibilities
- Development Leadership for UAE based development projects: Lead a small team including an engineer and technicians, helping to drive the development of new, high-performance, and cost-effective LV switchgear products.
- IEC 61439 Compliance & Design Verification: Oversee design verification, ensuring all assemblies meet IEC 61439 requirements for temperature rise, dielectric strength, and short-circuit withstand. Where necessary arranging same with third party labs
- Lab Management & Testing: Management of internal test lab and collaborate with external test labs to realise type-testing goals, prototyping and validation. Analyse test data to ensure product performance matches design criteria.
- Technical Design & Innovation: Approve technical drawings/models, BOMs, and design modifications. Drive value engineering and cost optimization initiatives.
- UAE and ‘in region’ Market Standards: Ensure products adhere to local UAE, as well as other ‘in region’ authority regulations for LV Switchgear, control panels and other Vertiv switchgear products.
- Project Management: In collaboration with the Product management team and wider product development team, manage projects from concept to commercialisation, ensuring alignment with project timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
- Factory Interface: Support manufacturing, engineering coordination, and factory readiness for new designs.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
- Experience: extensive experience in similar/associated roles, with specific experience of LV Switchgear, switchgear sheet metal enclosures and fabrication capabilities.
- Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge of IEC 61439-1 & 2 (Low Voltage Switchgear and Controlgear Assemblies) and UAE quality regs.
- Lab Experience: Proven experience managing or working with testing laboratories, with familiarity in ASTA/KEMA certification and type-testing procedures to IEC 61439
- Soft Skills: Strong leadership, project management, and cross-functional communication skills.
Associated Standards & Knowledge
- Core Standard: IEC 61439 Series (Parts 1, 2, and 6).
- Related Standards: IEC 60947 (Components), IEC 60898, IEC 61008/61009, and IEC 61010.
- Regional Requirements: ADDC requirements, ASTA certification, and Quality/Safety procedures.
- Tools: AutoCAD. Solidworks or similar
Key Competencies
- Prototyping & Validation: Hands-on experience with prototyping and validation, specifically for switchgear enclosures.
- Value Engineering: Experience reducing product cost without sacrificing compliance or quality.
- Component Knowledge: Expertise in Circuit Breakers, Switch Devices, and Control Gear.
