Job Purpose
The Electrical supervisor will be responsible for supervising the installation, maintenance, and commissioning of electrical systems on construction sites. This role requires expertise in electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting systems, and low-voltage systems. The Electrical Foreman will manage a team of electricians, ensuring that all electrical installations are completed safely, on schedule, and to the highest standards.
Job Responsibilities
Team Supervision & Leadership
Supervise and manage a team of electricians and electrical helpers, assigning tasks and ensuring work is completed according to specifications and safety standards.
Conduct daily meetings with the electrical team to review tasks, safety protocols, and progress.
Ensure that team members follow proper procedures and adhere to company policies and safety guidelines.
Monitor work progress and quality, providing guidance and support to resolve any issues on-site.
Installation & Commissioning Of Electrical Systems
Power Distribution Systems: Oversee the installation of electrical power distribution systems, including switchgear, panel boards, circuit breakers, transformers, and cables. Ensure proper sizing and routing of electrical cables.
Lighting Systems: Supervise the installation and commissioning of lighting systems, including interior and exterior lighting, emergency lighting, and lighting controls.
Low-Voltage Systems: Oversee the installation of low-voltage systems such as data, fire alarm, access control, and communication systems. Ensure proper integration with other building systems.
Wiring & Cabling: Supervise the routing and termination of electrical cables for power and control circuits. Ensure that all wiring meets code standards, is properly labeled, and is safely installed.
Earthing & Grounding: Ensure that earthing and grounding systems are installed in accordance with electrical safety regulations and project specifications.
Quality Control & Safety Compliance
Perform regular inspections of electrical installations to ensure compliance with local electrical codes, project specifications, and quality standards.
Ensure that all electrical systems are tested before commissioning, including insulation resistance testing, continuity testing, and functional checks.
Enforce the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and ensure that the electrical team follows safety protocols at all times.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment by overseeing proper handling of electrical materials, tools, and equipment.
Coordination With Other Trades
Coordinate electrical work with other trades (e.g., HVAC, plumbing, civil works) to ensure timely and efficient project completion.
Collaborate with the MEP team, engineers, and project managers to ensure that electrical systems are integrated correctly with other building systems.
Resolve any conflicts between electrical installations and other construction activities, ensuring smooth coordination across trades.
Troubleshooting & Problem-Solving
Lead troubleshooting efforts for electrical system issues, including faults in power supply, lighting, or low-voltage systems.
Provide solutions to electrical problems promptly, minimizing any project delays.
Ensure that all electrical issues are addressed and resolved in a safe and effective manner.
Job Requirements
Education
High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification in electrical systems or related field preferred.
Experience
At least 5 years of experience in electrical installation and maintenance, with a minimum of 2 years in a supervisory or foreman role.
Skills
Power Distribution Systems: Installation and maintenance of main distribution panels, sub-panels, transformers, and feeders.
Electrical Wiring & Cabling: Knowledge of low-voltage and high-voltage wiring, termination, and insulation techniques.
Switchgear & Circuit Breakers: Installation and maintenance of switchgear, circuit breakers, fuses, and protective devices.
Lighting Systems: Installation and commissioning of lighting circuits, control panels, and emergency lighting systems.
Transformers & Generators: Knowledge of transformer installations, load testing, and commissioning of backup generators and UPS systems.
Conduits & Cable Trays: Installation and routing of conduits, cable trays, raceways, and grounding systems.
Fire Alarm Systems: Installation of fire alarm systems, including wiring, detectors, control panels, and integration with the building’s electrical systems.
Surge Protection & Grounding: Installing surge protection devices and ensuring proper grounding of all electrical equipment.
Motor Control Systems: Installation of motor starters, VFDs (Variable Frequency Drives), and control circuits for HVAC and other systems.
Power Factor Correction: Understanding of power factor correction systems and capacitor bank installations.
Electrical Panel Testing: Ability to perform testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting of electrical panels, including load balancing.
Overcurrent Protection Devices: Installation and testing of overcurrent protection devices like fuses, circuit breakers, and relays.
Electrical Measurement Tools: Proficient in using electrical measurement tools (multimeter, insulation resistance tester, etc.).
Cable Termination: Knowledge of proper cable terminations and splicing for various types of cables (PVC, XLPE, etc.).
HVAC Electrical Systems: Experience in electrical wiring and control of HVAC systems, including chillers, compressors, and pumps.
Busbar Systems: Installation and maintenance of busbar trunking systems for large-scale electrical distribution.
Emergency Power Systems: Knowledge in the installation and operation of emergency backup systems (UPS, DG sets).
BMS Integration: Experience in electrical integration with Building Management Systems (BMS) for automation and control.
Elevator & Escalator Electrical: Installation and troubleshooting of electrical systems in elevators and escalators.
Panel & Distribution Board Assembly: Knowledge in assembling, wiring, and testing distribution boards and control panels.
Electrical Safety Codes: Familiar with local and international electrical safety standards, including grounding, circuit protection, and NEC (National Electrical Code) requirements.
Control Systems: Installation and testing of electrical control systems (PLC, SCADA).
Cable Fault Detection: Techniques for locating and troubleshooting cable faults in both low and high voltage systems.
Electrical Load Calculations: Ability to calculate electrical load requirements for circuits, panels, and distribution systems.
