The role of the Sous Chef is crucial in any dining establishment as they serve as the immediate support to the Head Chef in managing the kitchen operations. Responsibilities

  • Assist the Head Chef in planning and directing food operations in the kitchen.
  • Supervise and train kitchen staff, ensuring adherence to culinary standards.
  • Oversee the preparation and presentation of all menu items with precision.
  • Ensure kitchen operations comply with health and safety standards at all times.
  • Manage inventory and order kitchen supplies to maximize the efficiency of operations.
  • Contribute to menu design and development to continually surprise and delight diners.
  • Monitor food costs and control waste to maintain budget efficiency.
  • Develop new recipes and test them to expand the restaurant's offerings.
  • Address customer complaints and ensure high customer satisfaction with meals.
  • Coordinate with other departments to ensure timely service during peak hours.
  • Ensure kitchen equipment is maintained and serviced for optimal operation.
  • Step in for the Head Chef during absences, managing all kitchen operations effectively.

Requirements

  • Proven experience working as a Sous Chef or similar role in a restaurant.
  • Strong knowledge of cooking methods, kitchen equipment, and best practices.
  • Sound understanding of food safety and sanitation standards and procedures.
  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills to manage a diverse team.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks under pressure while maintaining high standards.
  • Diploma in Culinary Arts or related field preferred but not mandatory.
  • Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
