Job Description

As a Sonographer, you will play a crucial role in the healthcare team by performing diagnostic ultrasound examinations that help pinpoint medical conditions. You will work closely with physicians and other healthcare professionals to deliver accurate assessments through imaging and analysis. Your expertise in utilizing sonographic technology not only aids in diagnosis but also enhances patient care and experience. You are expected to have strong interpersonal and technical skills, given that you will interact directly with patients and operate sophisticated equipment. An eye for detail, steady hands, and the ability to communicate complex images into readable medical information are essential traits for success in this role.


Responsibilities

  • Conduct efficient and accurate ultrasound examinations on patients based on physician referrals.
  • Operate sonography equipment to capture detailed images of internal body structures.
  • Provide a preliminary interpretation of ultrasound findings to assist healthcare providers.
  • Maintain patient records and document ultrasound results in a timely manner.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and operating procedures during examinations.
  • Explain procedures clearly and comfortably to patients before commencing examinations.
  • Check ultrasound equipment is functioning properly before each examination to ensure accuracy.
  • Collaborate with healthcare teams to improve patient care and diagnostic processes.
  • Stay updated with the latest technology advancements in ultrasound equipment and techniques.
  • Provide emotional support to patients who may be anxious during ultrasound procedures.
  • Ensure a clean and sanitary workspace in compliance with health regulations.
  • Assist in training and mentoring junior staff and sonography students as required.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree or higher in Diagnostic Medical Sonography or related field.
  • Active certification by ARDMS or equivalent recognized certifying body is required.
  • Minimum of two years of experience working as a Sonographer in a healthcare setting.
  • Proficient understanding of human anatomy, especially concerning sonographic imaging.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with patients.
  • Demonstrable technical skills and familiarity with medical imaging technology.
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality in line with HIPAA regulations and policies.
