The Opportunity
We are seeking a Senior Transmission Engineer to join our Energy team in Dubai, providing specialist technical expertise in the design and delivery of transmission, grid connection and associated renewable energy infrastructure projects across the Middle East and Africa.
The role will provide technical leadership across feasibility, concept design, FEED and detailed design stages for substations, overhead lines, underground cables, grid connections and associated transmission infrastructure. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams supporting utilities, developers, investors and EPC contractors across the full project lifecycle, including the integration of utility-scale renewable energy and BESS projects into transmission networks.
This position will be integrated within a wider Energy team across the Middle East, South Africa and India, supporting transmission and distribution, substations, grid interconnection, renewable generation integration, hybrid systems and BESS projects.
Role Responsibilities
- Lead the technical design and delivery of transmission, substation and grid connection projects, including infrastructure required to connect renewable energy and BESS developments.
- Develop transmission system concepts, single-line diagrams, substation layouts, equipment specifications and overhead-line or underground-cable solutions.
- Coordinate primary plant, secondary systems, protection and control, civil, structural and telecommunications interfaces.
- Lead or coordinate power-system and network studies, including load flow, short-circuit, stability, insulation coordination, earthing and protection studies.
- Assess grid connection requirements and transmission interfaces for utility-scale solar, wind, hybrid and BESS projects.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable grid codes, IEC standards and utility requirements.
- Prepare technical specifications, tender documentation, bills of quantities and technical evaluations for transmission and grid infrastructure packages.
- Review EPC and OEM designs, calculations, drawings and technical submissions.
- Provide Owner ’ s Engineer, Independent Engineer and Lender ’ s Technical Advisor support through design, construction, testing and commissioning.
- Interface with utilities, regulators, developers and EPC contractors across Middle East and African markets.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers.
Essential Requirements
- Extensive experience in the design and delivery of transmission infrastructure projects (132kV and above) such as substation, overhead-line, underground-cable or grid connection projects.
- Proven experience across feasibility, concept design, FEED and detailed design stages.
- Strong understanding of HV/EHV transmission systems (132kV and above), substations, primary plant, protection and control, overhead lines or cables, and network performance requirements.
- Experience in power-system studies and grid interconnection, including load flow, short-circuit, stability and grid compliance assessments.
- Practical experience integrating utility-scale solar, wind, hybrid or BESS projects into transmission networks.
- Familiarity with Middle East grid codes and utility requirements.
- Experience leading technical workstreams or acting as Lead Engineer on transmission, substation or grid connection projects.
General Requirements
- 8 – 15 years of relevant experience, primarily in transmission, substations or grid infrastructure projects.
- Experience delivering projects in Middle East markets.
- Strong knowledge of IEC standards, grid codes and regional utility standards.
- Experience in grid interconnection, grid compliance and renewable energy integration.
- Understanding of utility-scale renewable energy and hybrid systems, including PV, wind and BESS, is highly advantageous.
- Strong commercial awareness and ability to interface with utilities, developers, investors and EPC contractors.
- Strong communication, report-writing and client-engagement skills.
Qualifications
- BEng, BSc, MEng or MSc in Electrical Engineering
- Chartered Engineer status, or progress toward professional accreditation, is preferred.
