Job Description

Most tax professionals manage filings. We need someone who rewires how a global fintech handles tax across jurisdictions—while the rules keep changing, the business keeps expanding, and manual processes keep getting replaced by systems that actually scale.

This is an Individual Contributor role. You’ll lead through deep technical expertise and cross-functional influence, not people management.

Why This Matters

Deriv’s mission is Trading for Anyone, Anywhere, Anytime. Millions of traders, across dozens of jurisdictions, around the clock. Real money, real regulations, real consequences.

Global trading means transactions in multiple currencies, regulatory regimes, and time zones—continuously. Tax compliance can’t bottleneck on manual processes. Transfer pricing can’t depend on spreadsheets that break when you add a new entity. We’re building finance operations where AI handles the repetitive work and humans focus on the judgment calls that actually matter.

Tax at Deriv isn’t a back-office function waiting for year-end. It’s a strategic capability that needs to keep pace with a business that moves fast, enters new markets regularly, and doesn’t wait for approvals.

Why Deriv

We’re in production, not planning. Finance automation is already processing real transactions at Deriv—invoice orchestration, reconciliation engines, variance detection, fraud models running continuously. You’ll join a transformation that’s underway, not one waiting for a business case.

  • Full procurement-to-payment orchestration already live—requisition through reconciliation
  • Document intelligence extracting and validating structured data from financial documents
  • 400+ internal users on our workflow orchestration platform
  • AI-enabled compliance monitoring across legal and regulatory functions

We share what we learn. Deriv is where we write about AI in production—what ships, what breaks, and what we figured out the hard way.

What You’ll Do

Own multi-jurisdiction tax compliance

  • Run direct and indirect tax compliance across multiple jurisdictions. Coordinate with internal finance teams and external consultants to ensure filings, payments, and reporting land accurately and on time.
  • When a new jurisdiction comes online—and they will—you’re the person who figures out what’s required and builds the compliance framework from scratch.

Deliver credible tax accounting

  • Own tax accounting processes—current tax, deferred tax, provisions, and disclosures. Work with finance to ensure tax balances are robust, defensible, and audit-ready.
  • When auditors question a position, your documentation and analysis should answer before you do.

Solve real tax problems for a moving business

  • Research tax implications of business activities, cross-border transactions, and structural changes. Assess risks and develop solutions that are technically defensible and commercially workable.
  • The business won’t wait for a perfect answer. You’ll make calls with incomplete information and refine as clarity emerges.

Handle Transfer Pricing And Intercompany Matters

  • Manage transfer pricing documentation, intercompany arrangements, and coordination with external advisors. Balance technical defensibility with practical business needs across borders.

Monitor, improve, automate

  • Track tax law and regulatory developments across key regions. Identify business impact before it becomes a problem.
  • Improve trackers, workflows, governance, and documentation standards. Use AI tools and automation to reduce manual work and raise the quality of monitoring. If you haven’t built automations before, come ready to learn fast.

Who You Are

You’ve done this across borders

  • Around 12 to 15 years of relevant tax experience. Strong foundation in corporate income tax, with exposure across multiple jurisdictions. You’ve seen what breaks when tax compliance meets multi-entity complexity.

You’re an all-rounder, not a single-niche specialist

  • Working knowledge across direct tax compliance, indirect tax, tax accounting, transfer pricing, advisory, and tax risk management. You don’t need to be the world’s deepest expert in any one area—you need to understand how they intersect globally so you can perform critical review.

You manage external advisors, not just follow them

  • You know how to brief external tax consultants, challenge their advice when it doesn’t fit the business reality, and extract maximum value from the relationship. You don’t outsource your judgment.

You communicate with precision

  • Strong written and verbal skills. You translate complex tax positions into language that finance, legal, and business stakeholders can act on. Your research is thorough and your analysis is sharp.

You build, not just run

  • Interest in automation, process improvement, and AI-enabled workflows. You see a manual tracker and think about how to replace it. You don’t need to write code—but you need to think in systems.

You own outcomes

  • When data bottlenecks threaten a deadline, you don't wait for permission—you proactively collaborate cross-functionally to unblock the pipeline.

You’ve been shaped by the right environments

  • A combination of professional firm training and in-house multinational experience is ideal—but strong candidates from either route are welcome. You’ve worked in fast-paced, high-growth, or regulated environments where tax couldn’t afford to be slow. Fintech exposure is useful, but not required.

The Honest Reality

This is demanding work. You’ll own outcomes where the path isn’t clear. Tax laws change. New jurisdictions arrive faster than documentation catches up. You’ll make decisions with incomplete data and live with the consequences. You’ll navigate organisational complexity to get things done, and establish standards that others will be measured against.

The team is lean, which means broad responsibilities and high visibility. Your contributions directly shape our global operations, and you’ll see the immediate results of your work. You’ll balance technical rigour with commercial pragmatism.

But you’ll define what tax operations look like when AI handles the routine. You’ll build workflows that most in-house tax teams haven’t imagined. And you’ll gain breadth across jurisdictions and tax disciplines that would take far longer to accumulate in a larger, more siloed team.

If you want a role with clear boundaries and limited scope, this isn’t it. If you want functional ownership and real impact, it might be.
