Job Description

The Senior Quantity Surveyor is a pivotal role within any construction project, acting as a key financial and contractual advisor to ensure the successful delivery of projects. This position involves pre- and post-contract duties and requires expertise in cost estimating, contract administration, and value engineering. The Senior Quantity Surveyor is responsible for managing the costs relating to engineering projects, from the initial calculations to the final figures. This includes ensuring that project costs remain within the client's budget and providing detailed progress reports. A successful candidate will have strong negotiation skills, attention to detail, and an analytical mindset to lead cost management and risk mitigation strategies effectively.


Responsibilities

  • Manage project costs and ensure they remain within approved budgets and estimates.
  • Prepare, negotiate, and analyze cost estimates and commercial submissions.
  • Lead contract administration services for various projects, ensuring compliance with contractual terms.
  • Conduct risk, value management, and cost control activities effectively throughout project lifecycle.
  • Provide accurate financial forecasting and make recommendations for corrective actions when necessary.
  • Produce periodic financial reports, including budgets, variations, and cash flow forecasts.
  • Evaluate subcontractor bids, preparing and managing tenders during project bidding phase.
  • Identify, analyze, and develop responses to commercial risks within joint ventures and project partnerships.
  • Manage stakeholder engagement, including clients, contractors, and project team conversations.
  • Ensure all financial aspects of contracts are as per company protocol and regulations.
  • Mentor junior quantity surveyors and contribute to best practices for project delivery.
  • Assist in value engineering techniques to optimize project value and eliminate unnecessary expenses.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in quantity surveying or cost management roles.
  • Strong knowledge of construction legislation, contract law, and industry best practices.
  • Excellent analytical skills and the ability to manage complex financial data.
  • Proficient in cost estimation software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Exceptional communication and negotiation skills, both verbal and written.
  • Professional certification such as MRICS or equivalent will be an advantage.
