Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our dynamic team. This role is pivotal in managing costs relating to building and civil engineering projects, from the initial calculations to the final figures. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure that the project is completed within its projected budget, without compromising on quality or regulatory standards. As a senior member of our surveying team, you will use your expertise to provide guidance and support in cost management, risk management, and procurement strategy. You will also be collaborating with architects, contractors, and project managers to ensure the success of the project. Responsibilities

  • Ensure that financial targets for the project are met while maintaining quality standards.
  • Conduct thorough cost analysis and ensure efficient use of project resources and budgets.
  • Negotiate contracts and manage relationships with contractors and subcontractors.
  • Prepare detailed financial reports to monitor project performance against budgets.
  • Collaborate with architects and engineers to keep project designs cost-effective.
  • Oversee procurement processes, ensuring value for money and risk management strategies are implemented.
  • Implement and manage project cost control systems and procedures as per industry standards.
  • Lead by example and mentor junior quantity surveyors and other staff members.
  • Resolve any contractual issues or disputes that may arise during the project lifecycle.
  • Maintain updated knowledge of building contracts and construction legislation.
  • Conduct site visits and assessments to gather data and verify project progress.
  • Develop and maintain a library of cost data to assist in benchmarking and future project planning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in quantity surveying within the construction industry.
  • Professional accreditation such as MRICS or relevant Chartered status is preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail with financial accuracy.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills to liaise with stakeholders.
  • Proficient with industry-standard software for budgeting, cost estimation, and project management.
  • Solid understanding of current construction methodologies, contracts, and health and safety regulations.
