Overview Of The Role:
The Senior Project Manager is tasked with delivering a large-scale construction project, ensuring that it meets the objectives set by the Project Director and aligns with AFCs strategic goals. Operating in a high-stakes environment, the role demands strict adherence to budget, timeline, quality, and safety standards. The Senior Project Manager must navigate regulatory requirements, manage multidisciplinary teams, and ensure effective stakeholder communication to achieve high standards of project delivery.
What You Will Do:
Project Execution and Delivery
- Manage the execution of a single large-scale construction project, ensuring alignment with Project Directors objectives and client expectations.
- Deliver project within approved schedule and budget, meeting programme timelines and financial constraints.
- Focus on project scope and quality standards, overseeing all aspects, including high-rise, residential, or commercial components.
- Implement project-specific delivery strategy aligned with AFECs Business Plan and Long-Range Financial Plan.
- Establish processes for programme management to optimize timelines while maintaining quality and cost-efficiency.
Leadership and Coordination
- Lead and manage project team comprising engineering, procurement, and construction personnel, ensuring team alignment and cohesion.
- Drive performance and accountability by recruiting, motivating, and retaining qualified team members.
- Promote collaboration and improvement within the project team, fostering open communication and proactive problem-solving.
- Cultivate a collaborative culture focused on improvement and operational excellence within the project team.
Client and Stakeholder Management
- Serve as the primary contact for the clients project team, maintaining clear communication throughout the project lifecycle.
- Manage client expectations and agreements, assisting the Project Director in aligning project delivery with client requirements.
- Facilitate stakeholder communication, acting as a liaison between clients, contractors, and internal teams.
- Resolve client and stakeholder issues proactively, ensuring project goals are aligned across all parties.
Financial Management
- Oversee project financial performance, including budgeting, cost forecasting, and implementing financial controls.
- Optimize project profitability by carefully managing costs, negotiating favorable subcontractor agreements, and identifying savings opportunities.
- Administer contracts efficiently, mitigating financial risks associated with cost overruns and delays.
Programme Delivery and Risk Management
- Adhere to project schedule, prioritizing on-time delivery and managing timelines to meet Project Directors expectations.
- Implement comprehensive risk management processes to identify, assess, and mitigate risks affecting project timelines, quality, or profitability.
- Utilize project reporting systems to track progress, forecast outcomes, and provide regular updates to the Project Director and stakeholders.
Safety, Quality, and Compliance
- Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards, adhering to local regulations and industry best practices.
- Uphold AFCs governance policies and business ethics across the project.
- Drive continuous improvement in project processes to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve project outcomes.
- Ensure zero lost-time incidents (LTIs) and high adherence to quality inspections without rework.
Required Skills To Be Successful:
- Proficiency in project scheduling software such as Primavera P6 or MS Project.
- Advanced skills in budget and cost control, ensuring adherence to project budgets.
- Expertise in risk management and quality assurance processes, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
- Thorough knowledge of Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) compliance and regulations.
What Qualifies You For The Role:
- Bachelors or Masters Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- 8 to 10 years of experience managing large-scale construction projects with a strong track record in project delivery.
- Professional certifications such as PMP or PRINCE2 are preferred.
- Strong understanding of project management principles, safety standards, and quality assurance practices specific to large-scale construction projects.
