Job Description

The Senior Planner role is a critical position within our organization, designed for an innovative and strategic thinker with extensive experience in urban, regional or organizational planning. This role is pivotal in guiding and executing projects that significantly impact the community's development and the organization’s objectives. As a Senior Planner, you will be responsible for reviewing and evaluating development proposals, conducting complex planning studies, and providing expert guidance on planning matters. You will lead public consultations, interact with stakeholders, and work closely with various departments to align planning initiatives with local laws and policies. This position requires strong analytical skills, exceptional communication abilities, and a commitment to sustainable development principles.


Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage complex planning projects from conception through to completion phase.
  • Develop comprehensive plans that effectively address strategic organizational goals.
  • Conduct thorough research and analysis of data relevant to planning initiatives.
  • Coordinate and facilitate stakeholder meetings and public consultation sessions effectively.
  • Review and critique planning proposals to ensure compliance with policies and regulations.
  • Provide expert advice on planning processes to enhance project outcomes.
  • Prepare detailed reports and presentations to communicate planning concepts clearly.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and government officials during project development.
  • Identify trends and issues in urban and regional development strategically.
  • Ensure planning projects align with sustainability principles and best practices.
  • Monitor and track project progress, adjusting plans as necessary to meet objectives.
  • Mentor and guide junior planners and interns, fostering professional growth and development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, geography, or a related field required.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in planning or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of zoning laws, environmental regulations, and planning practices.
  • Exceptional analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills essential.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with public speaking experience.
  • Proficiency in planning software and tools, such as GIS and CAD preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and lead teams effectively under pressure.
  • AICP certification or ability to obtain within one year is preferred.
