About The Role

Mott MacDonald is strengthening its capabilities in rail and metro station enhancement projects across the Middle East—and we’re looking for an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our expanding transportation and infrastructure team. You’ll collaborate with specialists across architecture, civil structures, electrical systems, fire safety, and building services to deliver innovative station upgrade programmes for the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

Key responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to:

• Lead the design and delivery of mechanical systems for metro/rail station enhancement projects
• Prepare mechanical calculations, design reports, layouts, schematics, specifications, and tender documentation
• Conduct detailed assessments of existing station HVAC, ventilation, firefighting, plumbing, and thermal comfort systems
• Develop mechanical upgrade strategies aligned withRTA, Dubai Civil Defense (DCD), ASHRAE, NFPA, and international engineering codes
• Coordinate mechanical engineering inputs across multidisciplinary project teams
• Review and validate contractor submissions, material proposals, risk assessments, and method statements
• Provide technical oversight during installation, testing, commissioning, and handover
• Support environmental comfort studies, heat load assessments, and mechanical refurbishment plans
• Attend client, consultant, and contractor meetings, representing mechanical discipline requirements
• Contribute to business development activities, including proposal writing and fee estimates
  
  

Candidate Specification

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering; Master’s preferred
• Prior experience working on RTA projects or station enhancement/refurbishment is highly desirable
• Strong background in HVAC design, mechanical ventilation, firefighting systems, plumbing, and drainage
• Familiarity with tunnel ventilation concepts, smoke management strategies, and emergency systems
• Excellent understanding of relevant codes including ASHRAE, NFPA, DCD, and local UAE mechanical standards
• Chartered status or working toward chartership is an advantage
• Strong communication, coordination, and report-writing skills
• Ability to work within programme and budget while maintaining technical excellence
• Demonstrated experience in multidisciplinary environments and the ability to liaise effectively with authorities
