Senior Legal Counsel
Ebury Dubai Office - Hybrid: 4 days in the office, 1 day working from home per week
The Legal Department at Ebury is core to the functioning of the Ebury Group. It provides front-line advice to all parts of the Ebury Group on legal, regulatory and governance matters which contribute to Ebury’s growth every day.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and driven lawyer based in UAE who is keen to work in a fast-paced, dynamic and growing company. The successful candidate will provide high quality legal advice to key stakeholders in the UAE and across the Ebury network, and be pivotal to Ebury’s development on a global scale. This role will enable the person who fills it to turn their hand to commercial matters and a variety of other matters with a view to supporting the development of the person that fills this role. The person who fills this role will report to the Legal Director.
Key Responsibilities
- Drafting and negotiating agreements required to support Ebury’s business and operational activity with third parties and on an intragroup basis;
- Contributing to the design and implementation of new products and expansion into new markets, including Africa;
- Supporting Ebury’s Middle East region, advising on regulatory strategy and expansions (including licence upgrades/variations and new permissions);
- Drafting and advising on relationship agreements and other terms with customers, including FX T&Cs;
- Working with Front Office, Risk Department, HR, Operations and other departments to resolve day-to-day queries;
- Representing Ebury in interaction with clients, counterparties, banking partners, industry bodies and other third parties;
- Preparing templates, playbooks, procedures and self-service material and participating in the provision of relevant training and awareness programmes; and
- Supporting the Chief Legal Officer and Legal Director in delivering the Legal Department’s objectives generally, sharing knowhow and training and development of less experienced members of the team.
Key Skills Requirements
- A proactive and solutions-focused mindset and an ability to communicate effectively in practical terms with stakeholders at all levels of the Ebury Group;
- The ability to operate largely autonomously as a senior counsel, exercising sound judgment and escalating appropriately where required;
- UAE and/or DIFC qualified lawyer with payments or other financial services experience;
- At least 5 years of post-qualification experience, either in private practice or in-house;
- Interest in the fintech sector and financial products; and
- An ability in a fast-paced environment to prioritise and manage a wide range of competing priorities (with support from other team members and external counsel where necessary).
