Job Description

A Senior Legal Counsel plays a crucial role in safeguarding the legal interests of an organization, providing strategic guidance and managing a wide array of legal matters. This position involves ensuring compliance with laws and regulations, anticipating legal issues, and reducing legal risks by advising the senior management team. The successful candidate will have extensive experience in corporate law, exceptional problem-solving abilities, and strong leadership skills. Essential qualities include meticulous attention to detail, exceptional negotiation skills, and the ability to effectively communicate complex legal concepts. The Senior Legal Counsel will build relationships with internal and external stakeholders, manage external counsel, and oversee legal operations to support the company’s objectives and business strategies.


Responsibilities

  • Provide legal advice and guidance on a range of legal matters to senior management.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and other legal documents effectively.
  • Develop and lead litigation strategies to address potential and active legal disputes.
  • Ensure the organization operates within the confines of applicable laws and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify and mitigate risks through comprehensive risk management strategies and analyses.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to provide effective legal support and risk assessments.
  • Evaluate and oversee external legal counsel in various legal proceedings and transactions.
  • Stay updated on legal trends and advise the management of potential impacts on operations.
  • Lead the legal team, providing mentorship and guidance to junior legal staff.
  • Create and deliver training on legal topics to internal teams to ensure compliance.
  • Facilitate negotiations and resolve disputes while safeguarding the company’s interests.
  • Represent the organization in meetings, conferences, and high-level negotiations as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Law from an accredited institution; advanced degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in corporate law or related fields.
  • License to practice law in the relevant jurisdiction is mandatory.
  • Proven leadership experience with excellent managerial and mentoring skills.
  • Strong negotiation skills and the ability to handle complex legal negotiations.
  • Exceptional ability to analyze and solve problems effectively and efficiently.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of conveying complex legal concepts clearly.
