Technical knowledge
Core knowledge in soil/rock mechanics, geological processes, materials behavior, fluid dynamics, structural engineering principles
Technical understanding of soil characterization
Technical competencies in geotechnical assessment
Technical skills in FE modeling, software applications, ground modeling, statistical analysis, risk prediction, simulation techniques, etc.
Technical knowledge in ground investigation methodologies
Engineering design capabilities i.e. piling design, shoring design
Instrumentation expertise
Familiarity with international building codes, environmental regulations, safety engineering, and risk management

Experience
Not less than 5 years as Geotechnical Engineer
Carried out independent site investigation, complex soil analysis, foundation design analysis
Client engagement
Independent technical documentation
Responsibilities / Authorities / Accountabilities

Primary Functions
The engineer shall perform technical evaluation i.e. soil classification, strength and stability, load bearing capacity analysis , etc.
The engineer shall carry out within the frame of third party design verification services engineering recommendations, construction guidance, technical problem solving, design optimization, etc.
Prepare comprehensive technical reports.
Attend meetings and discussion with client and authority.

Technical Expertise
The engineer will have enough experience in soil mechanics principles, rock engineering, geological process, ground behaviour, materials strength, structural interaction.
Possesses expertise in advance engineering i.e. foundation engineering, underground construction, earthquake engineering, slope stability analysis, geotechnical risk mitigation.
Competent in structural load calculations, ground support system, infrastructure design, geotechnical optimization, etc.
Capable of carrying out technical investigation methods i.e. geophysical survey, GPR, borehole investigation, laboratory soil testing, instrumentation operation.
Proficient in AutoCAD, PLAXIS, GIS, Finite element modeling, statistical analysis tools, 3D ground modeling software

Upstream activities

Assists in commercial actions in order to link client’s needs and Bureau Veritas’ services
Prepare technical aspects of tenders (related to his field of competencies), including but not limited to:

Scope of work
Planning
Cost structure

Downstream activities

Participates in execution of the missions, alone or within a project team
Liaises with client, designer and/or project manager
Manages (if required) design review phase of the project, as per scope of work and Bureau Veritas/client quality system
Executes reporting on tasks and cost building-up
Contributes to project reporting

HSE Requirements

Authorized to stop work if condition, situation, environment, etc. is not safe to perform the activity (immediately inform the reporting person in the department for further guidance).
Comply at all times with all applicable legal requirements, BV Dubai HSE Policies and procedures, client’s HSE procedures and practices.
Accountable to take care of your own health and safety and that of people who may be affected by what you do or not do.
Accountable for cooperating with others in health and safety, and not interfere with or misuse anything provided for your health, safety or welfare.
Perform his duties in a safe environment and respond to emergency situations as required by local procedures.
Maintain personal work areas tidy and hazard free and report any deviation/fault/hazard immediately to the location manager/line manager/QHSE Manager.
Reporting all incidents / Near miss reporting as well as taking action whenever any unsafe act of condition is observed.
Responsible for giving feedback on HSE issues for improvement as participation and consultation requirement.
Report immediately any newly identified hazard and participate in devising suitable operational control to eliminate/minimize the pertinent risk.
Report immediately any HSE incident and cooperate in investigation.
Use appropriate PPE at work area and be aware of:

the risks appropriate PPE will control or minimize
Report immediately in case the PPE is worn off or lost.

Ensure project team receive health and safety induction training.
Ensure project team is aware of applicable HSE policies and procedures of the client and respective project.
Perform routine inspection to check team’s adherence to the clients HSE procedures.
Ensure on an ongoing basis, the project team receive health and safety training which is appropriate to their job.
Ensure the project team are aware of their health and safety responsibilities and duties.
Ensure the project team is capable of carrying out their duties in a safe and responsible manner.
Promote the identification of opportunities to improve the health & safety of employees during their work activities.
Promote the identification of initiatives to improve employee environmental awareness and reduction of environmental impacts.
Carry out regular tours of their work areas to monitor general health, safety and welfare arrangements.
To ensure that any personal protective equipment, (PPE) that employees are required to use in their job:

have been appropriately assessed before use
is fit for purpose
provides adequate protection
is appropriately maintained and inspected.

Complete requirements for appropriate professional trainings in specified time frames.
Regular reading of professional journals and other technical literature.
Attend appropriate courses/seminars
Progress towards developing individual distinctive competence targets.
