Job Description

We are seeking expressions of interest from Senior Firefighters who can provide 24/7 Rescue & Firefighting Services (RFFS), including but not limited to: the provision of ARFF services to designated airfield to the specified International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Category, including civilian and military aircraft, provide SRFF services in response to incidents, including fire, building and facility emergencies, storms, gas leaks, burst water mains, motor vehicle accidents, hazardous materials and de-contamination tasks.


This role is part of our Fire & Rescue team at Al Minhad Airbase in Dubai, UAE.


Key Accountabilities

Firefighter

  • Responds to actual or potential aviation fire (ARFF) emergencies to prevent or extinguish fires and rescue aircraft crew/passengers using specialist equipment as required.
  • Responds to actual or potential structural fires (SRFF), including base office/accommodation buildings, welfare facilities, fuel farms/petroleum and hazardous products storage areas, and any other area of the airbase to combat fires and potential fire hazards using specialist equipment as required.
  • Is required to wear all provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as protective clothing, self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) and chemical protection as required.
  • Applies appropriate firefighting techniques and media application to manage additional potential incidents such as fuel spills, to mitigate the danger of aircraft fire or explosion.
  • Conducts rescue operations and the safe removal of trapped or injured persons from aircraft, vehicles and buildings, using specialist equipment such as power/hydraulic tools,
  • breathing apparatus, PPV and ladders, which may also include working at height of confined space working.
  • Assists in casualty care and the safe re-location of casualties for further assessment/treatment acting under the guidance of the medical services, when required.
  • Operates firefighting and foam making equipment including, hoses, branches/nozzles and monitors to suppress fire.
  • Regularly checks all mechanical, hydraulic, and powered tools for correct operation and serviceability.
  • Maintains the serviceability of personal protective equipment, clothing (e.g. fire kit, boots, helmets, gloves) and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) in a condition of operational readiness.
  • Performs daily station duties to maintain a clean and safe working environment.
  • Performs other role associated duties as required and assigned by their line management.

Driver

  • Responds to actual or potential (ARFF/SRFF) fires or emergencies in the capacity of fire vehicle driver operator with responsibility for all vehicle movements and operation requirements
  • Conducts the daily operational serviceability, vehicle and equipment checks including operation of engine, transmission, drive train, pumps, and hydraulic systems.
  • Maintains the vehicles (ARFF/SRFF) correct fuel, oils, water, and air pressure levels and takes corrective actions as necessary.
  • Replenishes vehicle water and agent/media tanks to maintain operational readiness of primary and secondary media as required.
  • Ensures vehicles are always clean, serviceable and in a state of operational readiness at all times.
  • Reports vehicle and equipment status including defects requiring attention to Crew Manager.
  • Conducts self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) cylinder recharging, set cleaning and basic set maintenance to ensure equipment remains in a serviceable state.

Control Room Operator

  • Manages the control room in the fire station on a shift basis and dispatches fire vehicles/equipment resources as required to all reported emergencies/alarms.
  • Continuously monitors control room incoming airfield crash alarm, calls, signals and information concerning fire and emergency including tests that originate from the main panel, the control tower and the building fire alarm and detection systems.
  • Periodically exercises the airfield crash alarm and fire alarm systems manually to ensure emergency communications are operationally serviceable and reliable.
  • Checks the performance of the public address systems in the station and the automatic operation of the fire station bay doors.
  • Periodically checks the operational status of the radio network for communication with Security Department personnel and the fire mobile radio network between the fire stations and the fire vehicles on the road, using simulation exercises.
  • Continually completes the RFFS operational logbook and incident log, provides required data for report writing and completes control room administration tasks as required.
  • Performs any other role associated duties as required and assigned by their line management


Specific Requirements

Essential Technical and Professional Skills

  • Two to Five (2-5) years’ experience in fire/rescue services including two (2) years as a firefighter at an ICAO Category Five (5) airfield or above.
  • Additional fire/rescue work experience may be substituted for up to two (2) years formal education in the ratio of two (2) years’ experience to one (1) years education.
  • Military firefighting experience (Desirable)
  • Certified ‘Medically Fit’ for the role.
  • Must be from a Five Eyes Alliance country.
  • Qualified Crew Manager is essential and/or preferably a qualified Watch Manager
  • Languages – English Oral/Written (Essential), Arabic (Desirable).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Computer based dispatch/control systems (Desirable)
  • Other - Valid heavy vehicle operator license in country of origin and ability to obtain equivalent in the United Arab Emirates (Essential).

Qualifications

  • Ten (10) years formal education.
  • Shall possess fire and rescue qualifications at least equal to the below:
  • ICAO Firefighter- NFPA 1001 Firefighter I/II
  • NFPA 1002 Fire Apparatus, Driver/Operator- NFPA 1003 Airport Firefighter
  • NFPA 1061 Public Safety Telecommunicator I/II
  • NFPA 472/1072 HAZMAT First Responder Technician Level
  • First Aid/Basic Life Support Certification (Essential)
  • SCBA Maintenance Technician (Desirable)
